Constitution of the University of Limerick Christian Union


SECTION 1:	Name and aims of the Christian Union.

Article 1:	The name of the society shall be the University of Limerick
		Christian Union herein referred to as "The C.U."
Article 2:	The aims of the C.U. are -
		To bear witness in the University to the Lord Jesus Christ.
		To unite all Christians and, through prayer and Bible study, to
		deepen their spiritual lives.
		To seek to stimulate an active interest in evangelistic and
		other missionary work at home and abroad.
		To uphold the truth of Christianity as set out in the doctrinal
		basis of the Christian Union.

SECTION 2:	Membership of the C.U.

Article 3:	Membership is open to all students and staff of the University.
Article 4:	All members are charged with upholding the aims of the C.U.
Article 5:	Only members who are registered by the Secretary and who affirm
		that "Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and the Bible as the
		Word of God" can vote at A.G.M.'s.

SECTION 3:	Administration of the C.U.

Article 6:	The C.U. shall have an executive committee to direct on going
		activities and foster the aims of the C.U.
Article 7:	The committee shall be composed of a President, Secretary and
		Treasurer and other members necessary to further the aims of the
		C.U. depending on what the size of the CU membership in any
		given year allows and in accordance with Student Union
		requirements. Other possible executive positions include Prayer
		Secretary, Evangelism Secretary, Publicity Secretary, Bible
		Study Coordinator, Year Reps., etc.

SECTION 4:	Eligibility, Nomination and Selection of Committee Members.

Article 8:	To be eligible all prospective committee members must
		wholeheartedly agree with and sign the doctrinal basis of
		the C.U.
Article 9:	Committee members shall be ratified at the AGM which is to be
		held in the second term.
Article 10:	Nominations for candidates must be received by the Secretary
		two weeks before the AGM.
Article 11:	The committee will prayerfully seek, assess, and select
		candidates.  The committee will propose the line up of the new
		committee at the AGM for ratification by the voting membership.
		The voting membership shall ratify or not ratify the entire
		committee as a unit. Ratification will be through secret ballot.
Article 12:	If the selection is not ratified, the process outlined in
		Article 11 shall begin again, to be resolved at the next C.U.
		meeting.

SECTION 5:	Meetings of the C.U.

Article 12:	The C.U. shall host a public meeting where practical once a week
		during term.  The C.U. will also, where practical aim to hold a
		separate weekly prayer meeting and bible study.

SECTION 6:	Affiliation to IFES Ireland.

Article 13:	The C.U. is affiliated to the International Fellowship of
		Evangelical Student in Ireland, herein known as "IFES Ireland"
		or "The Fellowship".
Article 14:	The C.U. recognises the privileges and responsibilities inherent
		in affiliation to the fellowship and will seek to support and
		uphold the aims of the fellowship as well as the other C.U.'s
		which constitute it.

SECTION 7:	Amendments to this Constitution

Article 15:	Any article can be amended or deleted by a 75% majority of the
		voting members at the AGM.
Article 16:	Amendments to this constitution shall be proposed by the
		committee after consultation with IFES Ireland as to the
		effects any	such proposal would have on the C.U.'s
		affiliation	to the fellowship.


Addendum:

The articles in the above constitution are intended to promote the ethos of
Christian discipleship i.e. an attitude of humility, servanthood, love and
dependence on Jesus Christ as Lord.  As such some sections , such as those
covering the selection of committee members, may differ from models used by
other societies.
