Hidden Emotions
thirty-two

Tal turned away from the phone to find Laura standing right behind him, her hands running through her hair causing tiny snarls of form. "Who were you calling?" She cried, and then her voice dropped to a whisper, "you didn't call the cops on me, right?"

Tal gave her a disgusted look, "No, but I should have."

"Don't, Please." Laura whined, "My life so messed up right now and the last thing that I would want is to have to sit in a dirty cell and think about the things I've said and done."

"Maybe it would do you some good," Tal snapped, "Maybe I should waste another couple cents and send you to jail."

"You wouldn't do that," she growled, "You know you wouldn't. It's just not in your nature."

"And neither was swearing," he smirked, "But look at me now." Laura gave him a stubborn look, and then reached out and grabbed his head pulling it closer to hers.

"Listen, Tal." she whispered, "I know you wouldn't do something to destory someone's life, your not as desperate as me. I know you won't tell anyone I did it, and if you do...I'll understand." Her breath feathered his cheek and he wanted to yank away, but he couldn't.

"I think..." Tal started but he was cut off by Laura pressing her lips against his in a forceful kiss. His hands shot upward and pushed at Laura's shoulders, ripping her away from him. "What were you thinking?" he cried, "Wait! You weren't thinking." He raked a hand through his hair and pushed past her.

"Your not worthless, Tal." Laura called, "That's all I was trying to tell you with that kiss..."

He turned and looked at her, almost stunned, "What?"

"That's why you've been sitting here for hours," she muttered, "You've been wondering why you weren't chosen, you were wondering why Brooke doesn't have the same feelings for you anymore, and your trying to figure out why. It's because she found someone else to put her hope and dreams into, it has nothing to do with you."

"She told me she didn't love me anymore, she told me she moved on," Tal spat, "I'm letting her go, and this is the only way I know how. And I know I'm not worthless. Maybe I'll find love again, maybe I won't...but at least I've experienced it, and you better hope Lindsi will be able to too. If not, neither will you."

"Are you going to tell Gil what I did?" she choked out, tears rolling down her cheeks.

"I already did, so you might want to disappear for awhile," Tal growled, "Nobody's going to want to see your face for a long time." Tal turned and headed out the front doors of the shop, not looking back to see if Laura was going to be okay. He walked out to the edge of the road, the dampness around him making his once gloomy feel even worse. Sighing, he looked up at the starless sky and waited for his brother to come pick him up and take him to the hospital.
