Hidden Emotions
twenty-eight

She sat there, looking up at the cloudy sky. The wet pavement sparkled from the porch light that fell over her small figure. Happy, she looked purely happy. Didn't her parents ever tell her not to go out after dark? Laura thought as she stepped out the car she had been sitting in for the past half hour. By now, she was sure that Gil was gone, and wasn't coming back.

Sneering, Laura turned back to the car and pulled out the windshield scraper that had been in the car all winter. She'd only used it twice, and it was practically brand new. The plastic tip was still sharp, it hadn't been worn down by a lot of snow and ice. Quietly, she let the door of her car shut, trying to make the least noise possible that she could.

She slowly crossed the dark street, the sound of her sneakers hitting the pavement making a hollow sound. When she neared the porch, close enough that it would take only a few paces to reach Lindsi, Laura stopped. Staring at the figure infront of her, she saw the way that the blond highlights in her hair shined, and the way her eyes glittered while staring dreamily up at the sky.

Laura looked down at her hands, the were clutching the windshield scarper so tightly that it was forcing her knuckles to turn a ghostly white. She glanced back up at Lindsi, in time to see her tuck and strand of hair behind her ear. Shaking her head slowly, Laura excelled closer towards her.

Coming up behind Lindsi, Laura pulled back the windshield scarper over her shoulder and then quickly swung. It smacked Lindsi across her right cheek, digging into her creamy flesh as Laura forcedfully yanked the scraper back behind her shoulder. Lindsi's entire body tensed up with fear, and her mouth dropped open to scream, yet no sound came out.

She spun around quickly, in time to see the windshield scraper flying into her face. It jabbed into cheekbone, inches below her left eye. And this time, when Lindsi's mouth opened, a loud fretful scream came out. It stung Laura's ears as she stared at Lindsi's slightly damaged flesh.

"Shut up," Laura hissed, "Just shut up!" Angerily, Laura swung back uncontrollably and then rammed the scraper back into Lindsi's face. She did it quickly and repeativly until the Lindsi's body fell limply off the porch and onto the wet cement.

Laura stared in horror at what she had just done, just now realizing exactly how much damage her rage had gotten her into. She had only come to Lindsi's house to ask about what was going on with her and Gil. This wasn't at all what she intended on doing.

"Oh my god," Laura cried, glancing towards the house. She knew it wouldn't take long before someone came out after hearing Lindsi's loud painful scream. Glancing down at the weapon in her hands, she felt a wave of guilt rush through her body.

Laura glanced back at Lindsi one last time, to ensure that her chest was moving up and down. She wasn't dead, at least she was breathing. A sly grin grew across her face, Lindsi never saw it coming, and neither did she see who her attacker was. She laughed, before turning and disappearing into the shadows.
