"What the hell was that?" Gil cried, "You didn't have to listen to him, Lindsi."
"I know," She muttered, "But what you don't understand is that he is my friend, Gil. It's because of Tyler that I am standing right here in front of you, without him...I'd still be in Nashville." Gil blinked a few times, just staring at her. He didn't say anything. She sighed, "Anyways, it doesn't matter. This wasn't such a good idea after all, you just got out of a relationship with Laura."
"We weren't dating," He assured her, a goofy smile growing across his face.
"Dating or not, you two were really close," Lindsi stated, "I'm like, rebound chick number one."
"Lindsi," He laughed, "Listen to me, there is nothing between me and Laura anymore and your not on rebound. I really do like you, I always have."
"So, you went after Laura," She smirked, "That makes a lot of sense."
"I didn't think I could have you," Gil explained, reaching out and cupping his hand around her chin, pulling her head upwards so that she was looking into his crystal blue eyes. "You were perfect, beautiful, and popular. Totally out of my reach...so, I went for the next best thing, Laura."
"The next best thing?" Lindsi spluttered.
"Well, okay. The person I knew I could have," He smirked, running his fingers across her lips as he smiled down at her.
"I'm sorry," Lindsi spat, pulling away. "But I still feel like I'm on the rebound, and you know what...I think it would be best if we were just friends. Who knows, Laura could be sitting on the steps at your house, waiting for you to come back."
"And it wouldn't matter."
"But it would, you see Gil. You can't just stop loving somebody that quickly. You can't just drop all your feelings and forget about them. No matter what they did, or how much pain they have caused you. Love doesn't stop abruptly, it fades away."
"So what, we can be together while it fades."
"No. When I get together with someone, I want their entire heart, not half." She smiled lightly, "But Gil, we can be friends...and maybe some day, something more."
Gil smiled, it was obviously faked. It looked as if he were trying hard to hold back his tears, trying to ignore the rejection he just recieved. "I guess, I should get going," He stated, "Brooke wouldn't want me to keep you out here long, she's probably waiting patiently on the couch wondering what's taking so long."
"Goodbyes always take long," Lindsi laughed, "She knows that."
"Well, as friends before I go, can I have a hug?" He asked, hopefully.
Lindsi laughed, then smiled warmly. "Of course."
