Hidden Emotions
twenty-two

"It looks wet out there," Brooke muttered, her eyes scanning the pavement outside the malls glass doors. She heard Rachel whine as she pulled the hood of her gray pea-coat over her light blond locks. Rachel stepped infront of Brooke and pushed open the glass doors that lead from the darkening mall.

"It's raining out," Rachel growled, "Matt better be waiting out there for me. I don't want to stand out in this."

Brooke laughed, stepping outside next to her and letting the soft raindrops casacade down on her. "If he's not there, beat him up for me," She stated, a grin plastered across her blemish-free face.

"I will," Rachel spat, the glitter under her eyes sparkling deviously as she turned away. "You work tomorrow?" She called over her shoulder as she started to walk away.

"Nope, Thursday," She replied.

"I'll see you then," Rachel shouted, giving Brooke a little wave over her left shoulder.

"Bye Rachel," Brooke grinned, turning in the opposite direction and heading to the curve in the road where she normally waited for her ride. The quiet sound of rain hitting the pavement and her clunky white shoes were all that could be heard. There was no normal laughing or cars racing by, everything was dead silent.

She stopped by the street light and yanked her tan coat around her body tighter. The rain was beginning to grow heavier and with every drop that hit her it made her even more anxious to go home. Her short summer dress blew in the wind, causing a million shivers to rush up her spine...she wanted to go home.

"Brooke," The word that broke the deadly silence was her name. She spun quickly, expecting to see Tyler's smiling face.

"Tal," She hissed, "What are you doing here?"

"I came to talk with you," He uttered quietly, his blond hair already wet and dangling in front of his face. "I need to tell you something that I've been waiting forever to say."

"What? That you cheated on me by accident and you want forgiveness?" Brooke growled, "Or is it that your sorry for the way that Gil has been treating me..."

"It's none of that," Tal whined, "Don't be so harsh with me, Brooke. You know that all that is in the past."

"ALL THAT?" She hollered, "All the includes you."

"Don't say that. You don't mean it."

"If I didn't mean it, I wouldn't have said it."

"Just the other day," He choked out, "You wanted to be with me again, you were still holding onto all those feelings. I could see it in your eyes, Brookie. You still feel the same way." He stepped closer to her, reaching out and lightly touching her face.

Yanking away, she shot, "Get over yourself, Tal."

"Quit denying it!" Tal screamed, "You love me as much as I love you. Did you hear that, Brooke, I love you."

"Your too late, Tally," She stated through a sheild of tears.

"What?" He inquired.

"I don't love you anymore," she whispered, "And I'm sick of all these twisted games."

Tal blinked back his tears, "Your just angry."

"No. I moved on," Brooke stated, suddenly being silhouetted by the headlights of a car. She smiled weakly to him, "I waited forever for you, and when it's too late you come. I'm sorry, Tal. I can't be with you."

He stood there, his eyes wide with tears as he watched her pull open the passanger seat door. Her blond hair blowing in the rain and wind as she disappeared. And that's how he'd always remember her, free and beautiful.
