Yusuke Urameshi was the toughest eighth grader around. Shoplifter, perverted, chain-smoker, drinker, and a punk, everyone thought he was a demon, the very definition of evil. He had a nasty reputation, and boy, did he know it. Despite his nasty life of fighting, pick pocketing, and a drunken mother, he manages to find comfort in his only friend, Keiko Yukimura, and his rival, second toughest punk at Sarayashiki Junior High, Kazuma Kuwabara. Now, as a ghost, he learns of a magical realm called Spirit World, and is given the choice of taking a test to come back to life. With the assistance of the cheery spirit guide, Botan, and the Crowned Prince of Spirit World, Koenma, he saves up his virtue (risks it all in a fire) and successfully comes back to life! However, not everything is free…
Once he does return to the realm of the living, Yusuke expects to live a normal life. Oh, the sweet sorrow of irony. Koenma and Botan deliver a message to the young teen, and tell him his true mission in life has just begun! He must become the Spirit Detective: protector of the earth!
He entered into the business of the Spirit World, and now he cannot back down. He learns to wield the Rei-gun (Spirit Gun), and begins to complete dangerous and tedious missions that involve him fighting mystical and powerful beings called Youkai, or demons.
Teaming up with his ex-rival, Kazuma Kuwabara, a thousand year old fox demon named Kurama, and a deadly fire/ice apparition named Hiei; he manages to triumph in all his cases…so far as we know…
Yusuke and the gang is the earth’s only hope of not becoming a demon infestation nest. Can he manage to destroy the Youkai that want to take over the human realm…before they kill him?
