| Like all skaters never want to slip up and call a trick something different and get the piss taken out of him. Also looking impressive infront of that particular guy/girl wouldn't be a chance you'd like to pass up right? Well here are some skating term I thought would herlp you on your way. If you can think of any other things that could be added please e-mail me them. I give you the name, prenounciations and definitions. # 180, pronounced '1-80'. One hundered and eighty degrees. Measure of rotation. Used to describe boarding tricks eg. 180 frontside ollie 360, pronounced '3-60'. Three hundered and sixty degrees. Measure of rotation. Used to describe boarding tricks eg. 360 shove-it kickflip 411, Video mag. for skateboarders. Released about every 2months 5-0, pronounced '5-0'. It's a trpe of grind i.e. 5-0 grind. Grinding with the axle of the rear truck on the edge of and object, eg. the curb 50-50, pronounced -50-50. Another type of grind ie. 50-50 grind. When both axles of both trucks are on an object, ie the curb A AA, measurement for the harness of skateboard wheels, eg. 95A ACID DROP, skating off an object touching the board with your hands or with ollieing AIR, the name given to the 'trick' of the skateboard and skater when they leave the ground/ramp without ollieing. It is less of a trick than the ollie. This is usual done in a halfepipe. AXLE, the metal rod running through the hanger which you screw your wheels on each end. Through time they may be known to 'slip'. This is when one wheel is tight and the other is loose. Taping on the tight wheel will knock the ale back into place. B BACKSIDE (B/S),Originated from surfing, the direction in which you turn if you are traveling up a wave so your back faces the wave. Used to describe your direction of rotation in skating. The opposite if 'frontside' BANK, an elevated surface. A common urban forn of ramp BASEPLATE, the flat part of the truck that fixes to the deck via 4 holes for the truck bolts. Also has an area to attach a pivt cup and kingpin, ready to attach the rest of the truck. BEARING, the part of the board that bears the friction of movement. There should be two contained within each wheel. |
