The smell of fresh tracks in Plano
Within moments of leaving the restaurant, and with Gael Mackie tucked safely underneath the back seat, Nastia threw up in the car.
Nastia, seriouslyyou have to stop eating so much every time we go there. Ive developed a first name basis relationship with the people at the Auto Shop In Plano. And I kind of like having the same interior for more than two weeks at a time. So if you could possibly stopsicking all over my stuffew, was that my iPod? Carly wrinkled her nose at her vomit covered accessories.
Nastia passed out, leaning her massive forehead against the dashboard.
With the window open to get rid of the smell, Carly drove back to her office, where she had promised Gael Mackie to discuss the case and work out a plan.
As the car pulled up to the curb, the moon was up and a pack of stray dogs were howling nearby.
Carly escorted Gael Mackie to the office, with a rifle pulled and all, in case a random Texan would catch her scent and try to shoot her for the prize money.
They had decided it was best to let Nastia sleep it off in the car. Carly poured a glass of brandy for the both of them, even though none of them were drinkers. It just seemed like something a proper detective would do.
Gael Mackie sat down and sniffed at her brandy.
So, tell me, Gael Mackie. What is this business youre bringing me? Carly said and leaned back in her chair, and tried to look like the Godfather.
Um, Carly, whats with the moustache? That wasnt there before
Gael Mackie scratched Carlys noggin.
Never mind that, Im just trying out a new foundation, I guess it has some side effects. But tell me more about your case.
Okay, well. I suspect that someone is attacking gymnasts and injuring them so they cant compete. The thing is, no one wants to talk about it. My friend, Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs, got her toes painted black and her hip fractured
Heheheh, Elyse Hopfner-BrokenHips!
Carly! Dont interrupt! Anyway, and all she does is sit around and sulk all day. She wont talk to anyone, and when someone tries to get her to say whos done this to her, she just shuts off completely. Whoever these people are, theyve put a scare in her, and several other female gymnasts on the continent. Gael Mackie explained, as Carly took notes.
You say theyhow can you be sure it isnt just one person?
Honeywere gymnasts. Itll take more than one psychotic criminal to bring us down.
SUDDENLY they heard glass breaking outside. Carlys car alarm went off and she rushed to the carpark.
To the sound of sirens and the feeling of crunchy glass shards under her shoes, Carly found that her sleeping best friend had been stolen.
It took her a few minutes to recover from the initial shock of something like this happening. She realised she was in over her head, and flipped open her mobile to call on the help of a friend.
Alicia? I need a favour
