There are many versions of the basic hand positions for a full body Reiki, however, they seem to vary only slightly. Some healers like to ground the body first by starting with the feet before moving to the head. Others like to start at the head and work their way down the body, finishing at the feet. Both have merits and it is up to you to do what you feel guided to do. Remember that this is an intuitive kind of healing and you need to follow your inner guidance and intuition as to what is best suited for the person that you are healing. There is no right or wrong way! Beaming/Scanning Once the person is lying comfortably on the bed and you are ready to begin, you may feel that you need to 'beam' or 'scan' the body for possible problem areas. In order to do this, first relax and balance your own energy by closing your eyes and taking a few deep breathes. When you are ready, place your hands, palm facing down towards the body at about a height of one foot. You may go lower or higher. I like to do this with my eyes closed as it helps me to concentrate on my sense of touch and sensation. Starting at either end of the body, gradually work your way over the body noticing the locations where your hands feel hotter, or feel energy being drawn out of them, or perhaps like a warm breeze indicating a problem such as a rip or tear in the aura. Often if there is a problem area in the body, it will draw Reiki energy from your hands at that distance. If the area is blocked, it may feel like a cold spot. You may repeat the scan until you are satisfied about what you have felt. This should take approximately between 3 and 5 minutes. Once you have completed the scanning, you may begin the healing. Hand Positions Each hand position should be held for an average of between 3 and 5 minutes. However, this is only a rough guide and you will feel that many times, it is necessary to remain in a particular spot for a longer period of time - perhaps 10 minutes or even half an hour. When you have been doing healings for a while, the 3 to 5 minute average time limit becomes second nature and you will know automatically when to move on to a different position. Until then, there are Reiki tapes and CD's available that have bells chiming every three minutes as a guide. It is also handy to have a clock placed where you can see it easily so that you can keep abreast of the time. If you are beginning at the head, place yourself behind the head of the person and either sit or stand, depending on what you find most comfortable. Remember that a full body healing can take between forty five minutes, to an hour, or an hour and a half so it is important that you are comfortable. Many find that sitting prevents aching backs! *An important point to remember is that once you have made contact with the body, it is important to keep one hand on the body at all times so as not to break the flow of energy. If you keep breaking contact with the body, it is like trying to run a lovely, relaxing shower when someone keeps turning off the flow of hot water. *The term 'body's middle line' is used in the explanation below and refers to an imaginary line drawn down the center of the front or back of the body. It would pass in between the eyes, through the nose, between the breasts, through the navel and down into the ground between the legs. It would pass straight through all the energy centers. Hand Positions Position one: both hands, palm downwards, one over each eye. As this is a sensitive part of the body, try not to make contact with the skin - hold your hands just above the eyes on either side of the nose. Position two: place a hand on both ears. Position three: gently rolling the head from side to side, slip both hands under the head so you are holding it in your hands resting on the pillow. Your fingers will be pointing down towards the neck. Position four: moving down to the feet, place one hand on the top of the foot, and one hand underneath the same foot. Repeat for the other foot. Position five: place one hand on the ankle joint, and the other hand on the knee of the same leg. When you have finished that leg, move to the next leg keeping one hand on the body eg/ keep your hand on the right ankle while you move your other hand to the left knee and then bring your other hand over to the ankle of the left leg. Position six: place one hand over the outside of the hip joint on both legs. If this is too difficult, place one hand on the hip joint and one on the middle thigh of the same leg, and then repeat for the other leg. Continued............ |
