Part III
...Mystical gasped desperately for air and tried to keep her head above water. She watched in terror as she was swept along in the strong current of the raging flood waters.

Panicking, her mind was filled with one thought, Im gonna die! Im gonna die! Im too cute to die! Mysticals heart raced, but she knew she couldnt give up. She took a deep breath, Keep calm, Mystical she said to herself.

Mystical looked frantically for something that would keep her afloat. The rain lashed into her face and she struggled to keep her eyes open. Finally, she saw a large log, and with all her strength she swam towards it. After what seemed like an eternity she reached the log and grabbed at it desperately with her front hooves.

Yes!" she muttered silently as she climbed onto the log. "But wheres Lorien? Mystical scanned the water for her brother It seemed hopeless; the rain was so thick she could barely see her hoof in front of her face.

Mystical knew she had to keep trying, Lorien! Lorien where are you? Lorien, answer me!! she yelled as loud as she could but her voice seemed to get lost in the wind. Stupid gelert. It's just like him to float away from me. she muttered angrily. Then something caught her eye. She turned her head to get a better look and spotted something yellow in the water.

It was Lorien; he was floating on his back with his paws up in the air. No! thought Mystical, Hes dea... wait a second, why isnt he moving with the current? She realized that he must somehow be stuck and was trying to keep his head up above water.

Now what? thought Mystical, The log is too heavy to take with me but if I dont have the log... She glared at her brother. Why did he always have to make things difficult? Mystical knew that the current would soon carry her too far and she wouldnt be able to make it to her brother, with or without the log. It was now or never! She gathered up all her courage, took a deep breath and plunged into the icy water.

She swam with all her might towards her brother, gasping for air as the flood water splashed in her face, and rain poured down on her. She called to her brother and he turned his head towards her.

Mystical! he exclaimed when he saw her, Grab a paw! He held out his paw and Mystical grabbed for it. The current threatened to tear them apart but Mystical managed to grab hold of her brother. You gotta help me! Im stuck; my tail is caught on something!

Mystical looked at her brother. Lets just stay here until were rescued.

Lorien looked at her with wide eyes, But if the water gets any higher Ill drown. My tail isn't that long you know.

Mystical considered this carefully, What if I float down farther and find help?

Lorien screamed, NO!! DONT!! Mystical was startled, her brother normally acted so strong and courageous. Lorien looked at his sister, Um... Please dont, Im... Im...

You're what? asked Mystical.

Im scared, ok?! he replied.

Mystical nodded, Me too, just be quiet and let me think. There was a brief pause and then Mystical said, Alright, Ill go down and see what youre caught on ok?

Just be careful answered her brother Id like to keep my tail.

Mystical rolled her eyes, then she took a deep breath and went underwater. She followed her brothers tail downwards, keeping hold of it with one hoof so as not to get pulled away by the current. She could see that Loriens tail was wrapped around a bush. Its a good thing Im vegetarian, thought Mystical as she chewed on the branches to free her brother. As she bit through the last bit of branch she felt the current pulling them along again. She burst out from under the water gasping for air.

The siblings looked at each other. At least they were both alive, for now anyway. The rain was beginning to let up and the two could see more clearly now, but where were they?

Mystical was trying to figure out what they should do next when she heard Lorien gasp, Oh crap!

She turned to her brother. His eyes were bugged out and his jaw was open in shock. Then she saw it. It was about 30 feet wide and it was sucking everything in sight into a deep abyss. Whirlpool! Mystical screamed! They both began to swim away as hard and as fast as they could but it was too late. The whirlpool caught them and they were dragged, swirling and twirling into the seemingly bottomless chasm...
