Final Fantasy I "The world is out of balance; the elements are in revolt. Four young heroes, each with a darkened orb, must restore order to this chaotic world. Swords and sorcery will aid them on their quest; on this final fantasy.
Four Light Warriors appear among the people, each carrying an Orb. Two thousand years ago, the Orbs shined with Light. Now, only darkness.... You are the Light Warriors, the world's only hope. You will journey all across the land, through dark caverns, into the depths of the sea, and even amongst the clouds, looking for some way to save the world from the plague that is slowly consuming it..."
Final Fantasy I was released in 1990 and the series has come a long way since then - from simple backgrounds, characters, enemies, and plots, to the more complex ones of Final Fantasies 7, 8, and 9. Nobuo Uematsu composed the soundtrack for this early game and as with the other Final Fantasies, his work shows his excellent talent. Final Fantasy I started a series that would capture the hearts of millions of gamers around the world. It was revolutionary for its time and will forever remain a classic... Final Fantasy II DON'T GOT ONE YET Final Fantasy III Leo is back! - At press time, there were several tried-and-true ways to bring back the fabled General Leo! Among them were: Kill 4,063 Brachosaurs (using only the spell Break) and you'll get the Resurrection Potion! You have a one in three million chance of getting the REAL item to "bring back wayward spirits" (you thought he was talking about the Phoenix Esper!) by crashing the Falcon into Triangle Island. Gogo will appear (whether or not he's in your party) and will smack Setzer around a little for being such an idiot, then find the Super Phoenix Down on the ground behind him. If you can get Vicks and Wedge to successfully perform the Mooglerena dance, then the game will say "Your turn!" and you have to do the dance yourself! If you do it right, the game will reward you with six billion GP and Leo will not die in the scene with Kefka at all! There are hidden Espers! - Push all the buttons on the control pad in the order R-L-Start-Select-B-X-X-Y-A-R-L-Start-L-X-A-B. Then turn off the game (don't save). When you turn it back on, the game will randomly determine whether you deserve access to the hidden Espers. If your life has been an odd number of seconds long, you'll get them, if not, you won't. You also have to push the buttons in order in under one and a half seconds. The various hidden Espers will give you access to all the spells in all the rest of the Final Fantasy games. There are hidden characters besides Gogo and Umaro! - I don't remember how to get them but there are about fifteen. It doesn't matter that there's no room on the weapon/armor shop screen for them, you can scroll down. There is a third world! - After Kefka moves the statues, there is a scene where the characters on the Floating Continent jump onto the airship. If you move the control pad around during this scene, the airship won't crack up. This is because the Statues are trying to shoot it with magic bolts. If you dodge the first one (it's hard) you can enter a mini-game where you dodge more bolts. If you win (you only get one try) the Statues will give up and the world won't become destroyed so badly. Hence the world's name, the World of Semi-Balance (WSB). Final Fantasy IV The Red Wings was once a proud military force of the skies, commanded by the honorable kingdom of Baron. The commander of its air force, Cecil, has been given the task of forcefully taking the four crystals of earth, and is discharged from the Red Wings after questioning the King's motives. He sets out to stop the growing threat that is Baron, and in the process unveils a far more insidious enemy. Final Fantasy V The world thrived on the power of the four elemental crystals: Wind, Earth, Fire, and Water. With the power of Wind, people sailed ships. With the power of Fire, they began the industrial movement. With Water, people quenched their thirst. And from Earth, they received blessings. One day, the King of Tycoon, upon feeling an irregularity in the air currents, rushed to the Wind Shrine, only to find the Wind Crystal shattering to pieces right before his eyes. In addition to this catastrophe, an enormous meteor had fallen to the ground, causing earthquakes in the surrounding land near Tycoon Castle. In the ensuing chaos, the King of Tycoon disappears mysteriously. Why did the crystal shatter? What happened to the missing Tycoon King? What meaning does the fallen meteor have? The answers will start to unfold as this grand adventure, filled with new encounters and many mysteries, begins... Final Fantasy VI Long ago, the war of the magi reduced the world to a scorched wasteland, and magic simply ceased to exist. 1000 years have passed... Iron, gunpowder, and steam engines have been rediscovered, and high technology reigns... But there are some who would enslave the world by reviving the dread destructive force known as "magic." Can it be that those in power are on the verge of repeating a senseless and deadly mistake? Final Fantasy VII "It has been said that everything in the universe is fundamentally composed of energy. What we think of as matter is really nothing more than a certain type of energy. And since energy cannot be created or destroyed but merely transferred, some speculate that living beings never truly die. Their life energy is simply returned to the universe in its simplest form." --Joe Rybickii & Dido Perez, P.S.X. Magazine This is where the story of Final Fantasy VII begins. It seems that an evil power company called Shinra, Inc. has found a way to mine this life energy, draining it from the earth, and using it to control the universe. Fortunately, a resistance organization know as AVALANCHE has vowed to put an end to Shinra's destructive practices. The story focuses on Cloud, an ex-soldier of Shinra, who teams up with AVALANCHE, and along the way encounters some very mysterious and powerful allies who help him fight against the deadly creatures Shinra has created to protect its empire. You, as the game player, will decide their fate. Featuring seamless 3D gameplay and animation, Final Fantasy VII contains hundreds of pre-rendered, computer-generated backgrounds and features real-time battles, vast map screens, and a complex and engrossing storyline. Published on three CDs, Final Fantasy VII is one of the largest and most richly detailed gaming experiences ever created. Final Fantasy IIX An unprovoked attack against a neighboring country, an assault by a strike team deep into enemy territory, and a declaration of war against the world plunges a previously peaceful existence into bitterness and chaos. Thrust into the ensuing madness is a young man named Squall Leonhart, a cadet in the Garden military academy of Balamb. A lone wolf by the standards of others, Squall's relentless drive to become the best leads him into SeeD, an elite mercenary unit. His final test as a graduating cadet of SeeD is to settle the growing hostilities between the neighboring countries of Galbadia and Dollet. What was already a confusing set of events takes a turn for the worst when Galbadia begins its invasion on the rest of the world. For Squall, the turmoil of the world around him is nothing compared to the turmoil inside of him; his encounter with a free-spirited young woman named Rinoa Heartilly has turned his well-ordered universe upside down. As an intense man who thrives in the regimented discipline of the military academy, Squall finds Rinoa's carefree attitude fascinating. Yet there is no time to ponder these thoughts, for Galbadia's irrational hostility has been linked to a sorceress named Edea, a powerful magic user. The job of dealing with this new threat has fallen to Squall and the rest of SeeD. Focused on this new task, they can only ponder what the future will hold. Final Fantasy IX Final Fantasy 9 represents a shift back to the style of older Final Fantasy titles. The characters are shorter and less realistic, and the party is composed of four characters instead of just three. Final Fantasy 9 has wizards and knights and many other old-school elements that have not been present in the last few Final Fantasies. The crystals which were included in earlier Final Fantasy titles are also back once again. Dark times have spread over the world of Gaia. Four separate governing nations (some blinded by their short-sighted greed, some persevering in the name of justice) are battling on and off in a deadly game for power. The kingdom of Lindblum, headed by the honorable and trustworthy Regent Cid, finally decides to take a stand against the unspeakable massacres by the troops of Alexandria. Cid enlists the aid of mere bandits to kidnap Princess Garnet of the Alexandria Empire. Garnet and her bodyguard actually join Cid's cause knowing full well the outlandish recklessness of the governing Queen, who counterattacks with an onslaught of warriors. A crossfire begins that may engulf the world in something far worse than political standoffs. Out of the band of thieves, one boy aljong with his entourage must battle his way through several awe-inspiring challenges to restore peace. Final Fantasy X Final Fantasy X marks a transition for the respected series, as it moves away from the PlayStation for the super-powered PlayStation 2. Despite previous statements regarding the game, Final Fantasy X will not be online-capable. In yet another departure for the Final Fantasy series, the player will have full freedom of movement, as the world will be a completely three-dimensional world, a vast difference from the pre-rendered backgrounds of the PlayStation games. After a "great terror rose from the deep," the world was covered in a vast ocean. To restore balance to this ruined world, Tidus and company must travel to the "kingdom of the sun." Originally announced along with Final Fantasies 9 and 11, Final Fantasy 10 promises to be as good as if not better than the previous Final Fantasies. The screenshots are tempting to the eye and look very realistic - from grassy fields to beautiful buildings and realistic characters, Square is bringing it all to life. We'll be keeping this section updated with the latest Final Fantasy 10 news, media, and information. Returning from the earlier Final Fantasy games are the magic points used to cast spells and the infamous full-motion-video sequences. The online features originally planned for the game have been removed due to difficulties with PlayOnline. Another interesting twist is how the game will have voice acting versus previous silence when characters talk. The game is scheduled for a July 2001 release in Japan. Final Fantasy XI Final Fantasy XIFinal Fantasy 11 marks a great departure from its predecessors. The Playstation 2 game will be a completely online massively-multiplayer game spanning multiple platforms. Final Fantasy 11 was announced with Final Fantasies 9 and 10. We know that it will be based online, and users will be able to play free at first, but later will have to pay a fee each time they play. Users in Japan, the US, and overseas will be part of the same online world; the language barrier will be eliminated by using easy-to-understand icons to communicate. We'll keep this section updated with all of the latest Final Fantasy 11 news, media, and information. Final Fantasy XII Final Fantasy XIIFinal Fantasy 12 was announced earlier this year, as quite the surprise to the FF community. With the news of FF11 being a totally-online RPG, many fans feared that it was the end of the series. However, Hironobu Sakaguchi has stated that, despite the changes in the series toward the online world, it will simply be another title in the continuing saga. Little is known about FF12 so far, but we'll keep this section updated with all of the latest Final Fantasy 12 news, media, and information. |
