HOW
CAN WE ADDRESS THE DETRIMENTAL EFFECTS OF MEDIA?
1. As Students:

Be aware of the negative effects of media, such as isolationism and
addiction; spread the awareness to those we know (or at least those we
care about)

Try not to imitate the negative values, such as materialism, that
we see or hear.

Write to TV stations and Newspapers to show our personal views on their
articles/programs
2. As Future Parents:

Control what our kids watch and read
-
Prevent our children from watching programs that are too violent and/or
sex-centered
-
Teach them how not to be negatively influenced by what they see and hear
HOW DOES
MEDIA UPHOLD THE VALUE OF TRUTH?

News Articles/TV Reports give accurate accounts of actual occurrences (ooh,
alliteration!).

Educational TV shows depict realities in biology, chemistry, and other
sciences

Some movies depict actual historical occurences

Editorials show the various stands people take on current issues

Sitcoms/Comics show real life with a humorous twist.
WHAT SHOULD
THE PROPER ATTITUDE TOWARDS MEDIA BE?
1. Positive

Being cynical will keep us from appreciating and understanding Media properly

Media is a powerful force that, if used properly, can positively influence
today's society

Media is part of our lives, our future, so it must be properly viewed as
it cannot be avoided
