Pegasus Bridge today

Pegasus Bridge today, seen from the eastern bank of the Caen Canal, where Major Howard's gliders landed so dramatically in the early hours of D-Day to seize the bridge from the Germans.

Right: The bridge soon after D-day in 1944, with some of the crashed gliders still lying on the banks

Pegasus Bridge seen from the western bank of the Caen Canal at the site of the famous Gondree Cafe.
The cafe (pictured right) was the first building to be liberated in occupied France when Major Howard's troops took it over as a temporary headquarters as they fought to keep their hold on the bridge.
