The original Pegasus Bridge

The original Pegasus Bridge, replaced by the existing - and remarkably similar - bridge after the Caen Canal was widened in 1994, is  preserved at the new Airborne Museum on the banks of the canal. Seen alongside it here is a Bofors gun, as used by 92nd (Loyals) LAA Regiment.

Horsa Bridge today

The Orne River bridge, known as Horsa Bridge, was captured by the Airborne at the same time as Pegasus Bridge early on D-Day and was equally important to the success of the invasion. However, it is somewhat overshadowed by

the worldwide fame of Pegasus Bridge and remains relatively unsung. The original ornate iron bridge (above), designed by Gustav Eiffel (who built the tower in Paris) was replaced in the post-war years by the current bridge.
