This view from Horsa Bridge shows the banks of the River Orne, where the guns of 92nd (Loyals) LAA Regiment were dug in to defend the bridge after arriving on D-Day. The regiment's self-propelled Bofors Guns were in action for nine days, shooting down 17 German planes which tried to destroy Horsa Bridge and nearby Pegasus Bridge. Today, things are much more peaceful - look closely at the left of the picture and you will see someone fishing. Right: Although Horsa Bridge is not as famous as Pegasus Bridge, it does have its own memorial and is not forgotten by the veterans' organisations. |
