The Lives of the Founders

         In 1844,  a young Persian visionary named Siyyid ´Ali Muhammad took the title ´the Bab´,  meaning ´the Gate´, and announced the imminent appearance of a massager from God, who would the most recent of a long line which included Moses, Zoroaster, Buddha, Jesus Christ and Muhammad.

          The Bab was persecuted by dominant Muslim leaders of the time and eventually executed for his teaching, bad his massage has spread widely, his followers, too, were masacred or exiled.

          Mirza Hussayn-´Ali was one of those followers to be inprisoned and tortured. During four mount chained in the notorious ´Black Pit´ dungeon in Tehran, he experienced a revelation that he was prophet foretold by the Bab.

Exiled to Bagdad, he announced his mission in CE 1863. His followers knew him as Baha´u´llah, the ´Glory of God´.

          From Bagdad, Baha´u´lla,h was summoned to Constantinopel. He was the furtherexiled to Adrianople and, in 1868, to Acre, he wrote a series of letters to world rulers, exhorting them to reconcile their differences and instread devote the energies to establising world peace.

While under house arrest in Arce, Baha´u´llah revealed the key work of his faith, the Kitab-i Agdas, ´The Most Holy Book´.

          He remaind (officially) a prisoner until his death in 1892, althought he was allowed to live outsade Acre during the last years of his life.
