~*~ Chapter 67 ~*~

NEW YORK CITY, NY – TOM’S LOFT – APR.12th, 2002 – FRIDAY

“So…” Barry said with a sarcastic grin on his face “I guess I should congratulate you. I doubted before, but now it’s clear that you are the husband to be.” Kirstin looked at Ashley, while Ashley had his eyes locked on Barry’s.

“Leave.” Ashley warned him, but Barry didn’t move “Now.”

“Ok, alright. I hear you.” Barry raised both his hands in a defensive gesture “I don’t wanna get into a fight for that girl. I’m sorry for you, boyband guy, but in case you don’t know, this girl you’re marrying, she’s no good. She’s a…”

“Leave now!” Ashley raised his voice and Barry just turned and left.

Kirstin and Ashley stayed there. Ashley had his back to Kirstin. She slowly walked up to him.

“I… I…” Kirstin stuttered… The words just wouldn’t get out of her mouth. She was too surprised to see Ashley there. She had no idea why he was there, but that wasn’t worrying her at that particular moment. She had so many things to say to Ashley, but just didn’t know how to spit the words out “I…” she looked down and shook her head. ‘How pathetic he must think I am, stuttering like this.’ she thought to herself.

Ashley kept silent. He knew he wasn’t the one who should be saying things. Kirstin should be the one doing that. He had done nothing wrong in Redding and now had just rescued her from Barry’s grip.

He still had his back to her. He closed his eyes when he felt Kirstin’s hand touch his shoulder. He was about to turn around and kiss her passionately, but he just wouldn’t give in to temptation that easily. Kirstin was wrong and both of them knew it. He wouldn’t give in this time. Not this time.

Kirstin’s hand started to slide down from his shoulder to his hand and held on to it.

“I’m so sorry, Ashley. I just don’t know what to say, because I don’t know why I did that. I’m just stupid, Ashley. I never learn my lesson. I know I don’t deserve you. You’re too good to me. You’re just… too forgiving and I can’t ask for your forgiveness one more time. It would be too much to ask. Too much to ask and I can’t do that because I know I’m not worthy of your forgiveness. But, even so, I can’t live my life without you. Because you’re already part of it. You’re the biggest part of my life since the first day I saw you.” Kirstin’s eyes were tearing up, but she wouldn’t let them fall. She had to be strong, so Ashley would sincerely forgive her, not just as an act of pity “I can’t ask for your forgiveness, but if you were to give it to me without me asking you, I’d promise you, swear to God, cross my heart, I will never, ever, do anything else to hurt you or destroy our relationship. I will treasure it more than life itself.” they still had their back to each other and Ashley still had his eyes closed.

All the music and the loud sound of people talking didn’t exist for both of them. It felt like just the two of them talking in a quiet, small room.

Ashley took a deep breath and opened his eyes, as Kirstin announced “Now it’s up to you. Whatever you decide, I’m gonna have to agree, because there’s nothing else in my power to do.”

Ashley released his hand from Kirstin’s. He took another deep breath before turning around and facing her for the first time that night.
