~*~ Chapter 2 ~*~
NEW YORK CITY, NY – NYU – Monday
“Hey, Grace!” Kirstin sat on a chair. The class had already started.
“You’re late.”
“No! Really? You think?” Kirstin joke. Grace smiled and just shot her a look.
“Glad to know you’re in a good mood."
“I’m always in a good mood.”
“In the past few months, yes.”
“Well, that’s what happens when you have Mr. Walsh at home.”
“No! He’s moved in already?” Grace asked all excited.
“Yes! Last night he brought all his stuff that was missing. I’m so excited! Isn’t it great?”
“Yes! I’m so happy for you two!”
“Thanks. And this morning, we had amazing sex and…”
“Ok, you can keep the details to yourself, thanks.” they both giggled, too loud actually.
“Ms. Dawson, Ms. Addams, am I interrupting anything?”
“No. Sorry, Mrs. Messinger.” Kirstin and Grace answered together to their teacher. When she turned her back to the class, the girls giggled once more.
“We’ll talk more over lunch.” Grace turned to the blackboard.
“Yeah.” Kirstin was excited about her new life. She wanted the world to know about it.
Kirstin put the tray with her lunch on the table and sat down. While Grace was doing the same, she asked:
“What time do you have to be at work today?”
“At 2. And I’ll probably be out at 8 p.m.”
When Kirstin first heard Making the Band was being cancelled, she freak out, thinking she’d be out of job. But that didn’t happen. Andrew Jackson, her boss and chief editor, had a new job editing 'Becoming' and recruited Kirstin again as his assistant. She couldn’t complain about her new job. She wouldn’t have to see Ashley’s face everyday. When she decided not to be with Ashley anymore, seeing him at work everyday was torture. But now, she wouldn’t have to go through that anymore.
“Is Tom all settled?”
“I wish! There are still so many things we have to organize. Make room for so much stuff."
“But how is this gonna work? You’re splitting the rent?”
“Yes. We’re splitting all the bills.”
“Wow, now you two are really a couple.”
“If you still weren’t sure of that.”
“Now I am.”
“We really are a couple.” Kirstin stared at nothing in particular. She had a big smile upon her face. Grace just observed her friend, with that big smile on. Then, suddenly, a frown formed on Kirstin’s face.
“What?” Grace asked, worried.
“Nothing. Are you gonna eat that?” Kirstin pointed to Grace’s pudding, trying to avoid the subject.
“Kirstin! What’s wrong?”
“Nothing! Are you gonna eat that pudding?”
“K, look at me!”
“What?” Kirstin faced her friend.
“It’s about those dreams, right?”
“What dreams? I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“K?”
“Ok. Alright. Jeez. Yes, I’m worried about the dreams.”
“When was the last time you had them?”
“I had one on Saturday and again last night.”
“Wow! Two in a row?”
“Yes. They are starting to get more constant, for some reason.”
“Maybe they mean something.”
“I seriously think they do. Maybe they are trying to warn me about something. But what? What could it be?”
“I don’t know… Maybe you’ll be seeing him soon?”
“No! Don’t even say that. Don’t even joke about that!”
“I’m sorry, but you never know.”
“No. Don’t even think about that, it can’t happen. Ever.”
“Why? Why are you so nervous about it? Why do you always freak out when you think about it?”
“I don’t know, G. I just do, alright?”
“You’re happy with Tom, right?”
“Yes! Of course I am!”
“So why are you so afraid of this? If this does happen, you don’t have to be afraid of it. You shouldn’t even run from it.”
“Yes, so what should I do, then?
“Talk to him.”
“Yeah, right. Sure, G. Great advice!”
“Yes, K. Find out how he is! You broke this guy’s heart! Be nice to him is the least you could do.”
“We don’t know if I broke his heart…”
“Oh, come on! The guy clearly loved you and cried that day you left him.” Kirstin looked down “I’m not saying you are gonna meet him soon, but if these dreams are warning you of something and you do meet him, just try to be nice, ok?”
“Yes, you’re right.” Kirstin just played with the rest of the food in her plate. She took a deep breath and stood up “Well, I gotta go. We’ll talk later.”
“Ok, girl. Bye.”
And Kirstin was off to her job.
NEW YORK CITY, NY – MTV Studios
Kirstin had moved to a different floor in the MTV building. When she was editing ‘Making the Band’, she’d be on the 10th floor. Now, working on ‘Becoming’, she had moved up to the 16th floor. She liked that, especially because she wouldn’t be seeing too much of Lexie Gold anymore. Lexie was a girl that worked on ‘The Real World’ editing and Kirstin had met her on her first day at work. Lexie was actually nice to Kirstin at first, but every since Kirstin had gotten together with Tom, Lexie couldn’t stand her, because she had hooked up with Tom once, but he said to Kirstin he never intended on going further in that relationship. A while after, when she and Tom got together, Kirstin still worked on the 10th floor and one day, Lexie tried to start up a fight with her, saying Kirstin had stolen Tom from her. The situation got worse when Kirstin said “I didn’t steal anything that didn’t want to be stolen.” People actually had to separate the two of them. The good thing was that Andrew, Kirstin’s boss, thought it was rather funny instead of something bad and he didn’t do anything about that. Kirstin couldn’t feel more relieved. She thought she’d get fired because of that scene. But things were better and Kirstin was on the 16th floor and didn’t have to see Lexie anymore.
“Hey, Andy.” Kirstin greeted her boss, sitting beside him on a chair in front of the editing board. She had 2 cups of coffee in her hands.
“Here’s your coffee.” she said, handing Andrew his cup.
“Thanks, sweetie.” he pecked her on the cheek “How are you today?”
“Fine. Just tired. Tom moved in last night.”
“At last! How long did it take?”
“I think it’s been a week!” they giggled.
“At least, it’s over now!”
“That’s what you think! My living room looks like Macy's storeroom. There are so many boxes all over the loft.”
“Sorry to hear that.”
“Yeah, well… so, what do we have to do today?”
“Oh, here. These are the things you are gonna have to type and add. You know how it goes already. I just changed one thing. The final credits are in this… wait, where is it?” Andrew looked for something in a drawer “Here. The final credits are all in this yellow paper.”
“Ok, so just type these, add in their proper place… do you have the background images for this set already?”
“Yeah. They are all done. Just type it and paste it to the bg.”
“Ok. What else?”
“I’m gonna pick some tapes I left in my office now. Be right back.”
“Ok.”
It was about 7:40 p.m. when Kirstin rubbed her head and yawned. She was so tired. She had worked too much that day. Andrew noticed that.
“Hey, K, you can go home, if you want to.”
“Nah, it’s fine. I’m almost done here. I just have to add these songs and this episode is ready.”
“Ok, do it your way.” Andrew smiled to his assistant.
After a while, Kirstin was ready to go home. She was putting her coat on when she heard someone greet her at the door.
“Hey, baby.”
Kirstin turned. She knew pretty well who it was.
“Hey, Tommy.” a smile formed on her face while heading to the door to hug her boyfriend. He pecked her on the lips and then he turned to greet Kirstin’s boss.
“Hey, Andrew.” they shook hands.
“Hey, Tom. How is it going?” Kirstin had her arms wrapped around Tom’s waist and Tom had his arm resting on Kirstin’s shoulder.
“Good. You?”
“Same here. Heard you’ve moved in already.”
“Yeah. Finally!”
“Well… I’m happy for you guys.”
“Thanks, man.” Tom thanked Andrew and Kirstin just smiled.
“We gotta go now. I’ll see you tomorrow, Andy.” Kirstin said her goodbye.
“See you, K.”
“Bye, man.”
“What are you doing here, anyway?” Kirstin asked, while they were heading to the elevator.
“I have some good news.”
“What?” Kirstin asked all enthusiastic when they were entering the elevator.
“I got a week off.”
“No way!”
“Way!”
“Which week?”
“Which ever. I just have to choose. So you see with your boss when you’re your week off is gonna be, so I can take the same one off.”
“Yeah. Ok. But where are we going? I mean, we have to travel! I can’t stand being in New York anymore.”
“I have an idea.”
“Really? What?”
“We’ll discuss it over dinner. I don’t know if you’ll be up for it.”
“Why?” Kirstin got worried.
“I think we should talk about it at home.” he answered, getting out of the elevator.
“Ok… but is there something wrong?”
“No! Don’t worry! It’s just that I have this place I wanna go to, but I’m not so sure you are gonna like it.”
“Well, if you’re coming, I know I’m gonna love it.”
“Aw… I love you.” he kissed her softly on the lips.
“I love you, too.” she said, smiling, when they separated from the kiss. She loved being so certain of something as she was about her feelings for Tom. She did love him “Did you get here in your car?”
“Yeah.”
“Where did you park it?”
“In the parking lot across the street.”
“Ok, Well, mine’s here at the building’s parking lot. We’ll meet at home, then?”
“Yeah. Ok. Bye, then.”
They kissed and went their separate way.
