I'm making actual stuff, not just pictures. I want something I can touch... So, I'm working on a selection of things. I finished several in time for Utopia, a convention in Scheveningen. They had a Wheel of Time track this year, and I used the banners as decoration. I entered the Sul'dam dress in the costume contest, and won a prize for the best WoT costume! Ok, so maybe I had the ONLY WoT costume in the contest... It's still a great dress. :-p

What I made: * Sul'dam dress * Aiel Aes Sedai headband (pics coming soon) * Cuendillar Seal (well, see below for that one) * Dragon Scepter (didn't do that one, no time) * Banners (see below): - Band of the Red Hand Infantry banner - Band of the Red Hand Cavalry banner - Perrin Aybara's Wolfhead banner - Manetheren banner - Aes Sedai banner

First, I started doodling on a piece of paper, to get an idea of what I wanted to make. I'll spare you the pictures of that... For the banners, I needed two pictures I couldn't make myself. An eagle for Manetheren and a wolfhead for Perrin. I started googling for heraldry signs, and found very good examples. After some printing, cutting and drawing, I came up with these banners. Remember, these are on paper. The quality of the Manetheren one isn't very good, but you can see what I did I hope. All banners were going to be about 25 cm wide and 75 long. This is about the size of the paper I used, and I like the width/length ratio. In the end, I made them 40x80 for the Aes Sedai one and 50x100 for the rest. It worked out better with the fabric I had that way.

Band of the Red Hand banners: This is just a trace of my own hand, but it works quite well I think. Need to decide about open or closed though. I think I prefer the open one, closed looks like stop sign. The spearhead needs more work as well. Sword hilt too thick, should be longer as well. Letters will be the same in both of course. Below: I did the lettering by printing out ones I liked as big as I needed, then tracing them with a black marker. Works well, I think, though it's a bit smudged here and there. Spear looks MUCH better now, sword as well.

Manetheren banner: need to get tail symmetrical, and get wings more even. Below is the finished banner. I just found ou the Eagle should be on a field of blue, but I had already finished the banner by the time I read that. I like the white anyway... There are more loops, they're tucked to the back, cause we couldn't really use them.

Perrin Aybara's Wolfhead banner. After I made this one, i started thinking about what the books said. They never really say it's just a head, but I think this wolf is so cool. It even has contrasting eyes, a nudge towards Perrin 'Goldeneyes'. This one turned out REALLY well. It looks awesome, I think. My dad (he read the books as well) really liked it as well. My favourite by a long shot...

Aes Sedai banner: this is the same as the headband will be, the latter will be smaller of course. This was just one big circle and two half smaller circles. Need to reverse the symbol, as the Flame should be on the left and the Fang on the right. AS you can see, I forgot to switch.... I was done, looked at it and thought "hmmm, wasn't this supposed to be flipped?" Still pretty though. Again, more flaps are tucked behind. I haven't got pics of the headbands yet, will have them soon. They didn't turn out that well, you'll see...

I made this one out of self-hardening clay. It took forever to dry, but it looks pretty nice. I still have to sand all the bumps off (see the one on the left?), and paint one side black. The clay is actually whiter then you can tell on the picture, so it might not be necessary to paint one half white. If it's not, all the better, cause that means less work ;-). As you can see, the curve is the correct way now, I checked before starting this... I didn't finish this one, cause it's missing in action. I can't find the blasted thing anywhere! If you have seen this seal, please contact me at... lol! just kidding, I just have to look again. It's around here somewhere... Or is it?
