black sheep in wolf's white; blending traditional & modern ideas

covens of the licorice unicorn

The Licorice Unicorn is an eclectic, Olde Crafte coven which has been public for almost 20 years. The Covens of the Licorice Unicorn are not Wiccan. Instead, our body of teachings is similar to traditional or hereditary witchcraft. Our Coven members hold a variety of personal beliefs, & their experiences strengthen the Licorice Unicorn.

Because we are Olde Crafte, the Covens emphasize Protocol. Simply put, Protocol—a traditional set of behaviors & etiquette—allow those who serve the Covens to demonstrate love & appreciation for each other. To us, Protocol is not restrictive; rather, it is a dance in which we are all truly free of mundane bonds.

The rank of Tribe—comparable to First Degree in Gardnerian covens—is given to those who wish to learn more about the Licorice Unicorn & participate in our workings. A minimum of one year of service in Tribe is required before full initiation.

Upon initiation into the Covens, members choose an area of specialization based upon the five elements. Within those schools of magick are four ranks that signify certain achievements. This allows members to hone their gifts or pursue individual interests. Those who excel are accorded respect by virtue of their rank within their chosen elemental specialization—yet they still defer to others who have achieved similar ranks within another school.

The hierarchy of the Covens of the Licorice Unicorn is traditionally matriarchal, but balance is a key teaching in our traditions. Men are not excluded; rather, they are integrated within the hierarchy as vital participants & sacred brothers. They can hold seats on M'Lady's council & achieve high ranks in the Coven. Still, in keeping with our Olde Crafte roots, the majority of teaching & leading within the Licorice Unicorn Covens is done by Priestesses.
