Prayer is encouraged by the JW's, however it is not viewed as a cure-all for all of life's woes (faith healing etc.)

There is often admonition to pray throughout the day, not just at meals. It boils down to the realness of god. It is often a ritualistic thing to pray for most. Meals, meetings, hard times. But how many pray while walking down the street to the corner store, or when they are really happy?

I used to belabour this while serving as an elder. It just wasn't apparent that people had this relationship. I used the illustration of marriage If the only things you ever said to your spouse was thanks for this, thanks for that, I need help with... how close would you feel to this person. If this is all god hears from us what kind of relationship are we indicating that we want with god. A close intimate friend or therapist?

My problem with the JW's and prayer is that they use prayer as a way of putting off decisions or to discourage people from vocalizing issues. Pray about it brother and leave it in Jehovah's hands. In his due time he will care for it. But brother Branch Coordinator we need (insert choice) today. Perhaps you need to cultivate the quality of faith more..., grrrrrr

Oops I am ranting again. i thought I had stopped doing that. hmmmmm must be the left over zeal from the obliteration of the rabbit diety! (or maybe it is just the sugar rush)
