Hmm... I dunno, Normy. If the kid was disassociated or disfellowshiped and was not a practicing JW minister any longer, then it seems to me Dochow did the right thing. It would seem that the kid was lying to get out the duty of serving his country, and he was rightly discovered as being a liar.
Granted, this was a stupid thing to write about in the Watchtower. Glorifying someone's untimely demise so as to exalt the ostensible benefits of membership in "God's
organization" is a pretty distasteful thing to do. But, how would you feel if, say, a young Catholic man claimed to be a priest, or an integral member of his spiritual community, and when the FBI checked out his story at the parish he
claimed to be serving in, he was told by the local bishop that the young man hadn't been to church in a couple of years, and even has told people that he no longer considers himself to be Catholic? Well, you see what I'm getting at.
Would it have been OK for Dochow to lie in behalf of that kid, or did Dochow actually do the right thing?
