My main point remains: the Society instigated and has maintained the ban on blood transfusions. It started the JW community on the road to enthusiastic support by linking blood transfusions and vaccinations in 1945. The JW community didn't come up with either of these harebrained ideas on its own.
Also remember the reason the Society gave up on the vaccination ban: it didn't want to get involved in possible legal complications. Vaccinations were a far bigger thing around 1950 than were transfusions. It was another case of being self-serving. If the Society gives up on the transfusion ban, it will be similarly self-serving. Remember that the men in charge have had ample opportunity to do what's right, and haven't done so. Therefore they have to be forced into it.
