While it is true that I have gained a deep understanding of "spirituality" (as well as its related human attributes like gullibility and self-deception) I would gladly trade-in that understanding for the knowledge and experience I missed out on.

I don't know your situation and how it is that you feared ending up in the looney bin, but I've heard that argument before and I don't buy it. Perhaps when looked at in a one-person-at-a-time view it can seem that certain individuals were helped, but overall the experience is a negative one for humanity as a whole.

As I've said before, when using a one-person-at-a-time viewpoint people could make convincing arguments for how a particular person was helped by committing acts of rape, child sexual abuse, or other horrific acts. That is the flaw in focusing on the individual while ignoring everyone else touched by his actions.

So, yes, you may have personally been helped for a while by the Witnesses -- but what price did hundreds or thousands of others pay in return for the help you believe you got?
