This is a very sad situation, indeed. I too have seen deeply religious families in turmoil. You would be inclined to think that their family would have strong ties, but this is exactly the opposite 9 times out of 10. I think tightly-controlled enviornments are what breed this sort of thing. The more control a religious organization exerts over its members, the greater the likelihood that family conflicts will erupt over trying to meet those "standards." Try exerting that kind of control over a teenager, and watch how rebellious he'll get.

The truth of the matter is that tightly-controlled enviornments like the ones found in the Witnesses, Mormonism and Pentecostalism are what cause greater family tensions. In fact, there's always a case where these people's belief systems encourage them to sort of distance themselves from their "worldly" families. I've seen it happen on numerous occasions, myself.
