To all,
I'm wondering if there has ever been a study determining what effect cult-like religions and/or fundie type mentality have on the functionality of families.
It's been my observation, (and I'm not saying that it is a proven fact - this is why I'm asking about it) that the most fervently religious people seem to have the most dysfunctional families. You'd think that people who read the bible on a daily basis would have strong, positive family relationships. But I see the opposite. Even within the same religious groups, the ones regarded as 'weak' seem to have a stronger sense of family. At least in any JW congs that I was part of, that seemed to be the case. And I'm not just talking about JWs. I know some Mormons who are VERY fervent followers of their faith, and their family relationships are very shaky. It seems to me that the most religious ones have the worst family relationships. Does anyone else share this observation?
