Hi there,

I wasn't at the meeting last night, but reading your interesting post did remind me of what it was like when I did attend many years ago.

There is always that tension - the memorial versus the extraordinary efforts to make sure that no-one actully samples the bread and wine. Having been raised in a traditional church, I always found the memorial to distinctly lack a spiritual or emotional 'feel'. Say what you like about the mainstream lot, but they know how to run a ceremony and to have some truly inspiring music. Saw a bit of Bach's St Matthew's Passion on TV today - musical genius.

One little incident I remember of a memorial. One year my wife and I supplied the wine, and before the meeting we were helping to set up. I'd put the bottle of red wine on the lectern, and a few minutes later went to move the lectern from a lower level, forgetting the bottle. It toppled, wife screamed (I think) and through an involuntary reaction I caught it in one hand just before it hit the floor. I think we thought it was divine intervention at the time.
