Hmm, notice you didn't post our conversation from last night. Sniff.

I'll survive.

This conversation reminded me of an interesting position I once read on the hellfire doctrine. I suppose it was meant to combat the notion that God is a bully and punishes unbelievers in a burning hell. This particular Pator, Tony Evans, explains that hell is actually part of God's nature. He likens God to fire. That if you touch fire you will get burned and that of course isn't fire's fault, but only part of it's physical nature. I am looking through his site as I write this to see if I can find a quote on the "nature" argument. I couldn't, but I did find this:

"The question is, how can a just God send someone to hell forever? Is that a fair penalty for
sin? The answer is ``yes''--when you con- sider the nature of the crime. Sin is an eternal
wrong committed against an eternal God. When you commit an eternal crime against an
eternal person you must pay an eternal price. Hell is the eternal price that all sinners must
pay. And since all of us are sinners, all would be doomed, if not for God's provision.
"

Make sense? Not to me either.

Regardless, the book is called Our God is Awesome, by Dr. Tony Evans
