What love you manifest for your old friend. People of his sort are dear to us all, remain his friend and support him however you can.
Your feelings don�t sound selfish at all to me. Instead they are permeated with kindness, consideration and love. Remember, Jesus said that surrendering our souls for a friend is the greatest manifestation of love. We must not die in order to surrender ourselves for friends. Sometimes it just means putting their interests ahead of our own, this you manifest quite well.
Remain his friend, and ours. Its the most you can do.
