: What I would like to ask is, what do you think is the most significant event of this century?

That's a hard one. I think that in hindsight, in anothe rhundred years, the development of the computer will stand as the single most important event in this century.

The plane was certainly important, too, but I think its development was more inevitable. Lots of people worked and had worked on a workable heavier-than-air-machine, it sooner or later someone would succeed. This of course does not lessen the accompishment of the Wright brothers.

: If you are feeling like really going out on a limb, what do you think is the most significant event of the millennium?

Actually, I think that's easier: The creation of the printed press, and its use to make books generally available, has been the most important development in this millenium.
