I guess for me, it was developing a set of moral guidelines of my own, independent of any authority figures. It's a work in progress. But having gotten the knack, I assure you I will never, never return to the point of having right and wrong dictated to me by some self-righteous ruler-wannabee who "would like to do a little walking, too" (thanks, Charlie Daniels).
