As a RN, I am required by my license to follow Dr.s orders. If the order is not safe (wrong dose of drug, wrong drug, any questionable, not generally accepted treatment, etc.) I would tell my supervisor that I could not carry it out and
why. It is the doctor who is responsible for the order and is legally and ethically responsible for those orders. If a nurse carries out an unsafe order then he is also legally and ethically responsible. I don't see how a JW Dr. could
order blood to be hung if it wasn't a sound medical decision. I also don't know how the dr. resolves this in her conscience. It is the conscience of the patient, I suppose, that is in question here.
