Jarlaxle has got to be the coolest drow of all time! He is one of the most interesting characters I've ever read about. He just thrives in the chaos of the drow culture. He has a very cool personality. Jarlaxle is unusual by drow standards particularly in his appearance. Jarlaxle wears bright and loudly colored clothes which raises more than one drow eyebrow. He has lots of jewelry that will jingle and boots that click loudly on the ground. Practically every single thing Jarlaxle wears has a magical dweomer to it, so the noise he makes when he walks can also stop and be silent. He wears a magical eyepatch even though his eyes are both fine and swithes back from one eye to another.
As I was saying Jalaxle has a thing for items that have a magical endowments on them.
He is always looking for a profit (particularly magic items), even playing both sides so they compete to win him over with more riches. Even when both sides lose Jarlaxle has still wins it all (haha). Yes, greed for things that are magical seems to be his only weakness and though I haven't read Servant to the Shard yet I have a feeling its not going be good for him. I really hope he doesn't die!
Jarlaxle if the leader of a band of outkasts and renegades called Bregan D'aerthe. It has a web of spies that are all over Menzoberranzan. They leave no stone unturned and corner unsearched. He knows everything that goes on in the city and that is why the Matron Mothers hire him a lot. His army is huge and expanse which allows him to achieve what only some male drows can dream about and that is power of a Matron Mother! None should dare to cross him because it would be losing a very vital ally and making a very formidable foe. His network has now stretched on to the surface and now he seems to be everywhere and in the middle of everything. I would think that he's tryin to steal the spotlight from Drizzt!
Another curious thing about Jarlaxle is that he doesn't seem evil! Sure he has a trait of being unloyal in most cases and manipulative, but then again he only seems to only be that way with other drow. I read in The Silent Blade that he knew Zaknafien and that they were quite good friends. What does this mean? Is Jarlaxle and Zaknafien related or are they just alike in sharing common views? Who knows, Jarlaxle seems downright a really nice guy sometimes and its unnerving because it makes you confused. The only side Jalaxle is on is his side.
Jarlaxle also seems to be a wonderous fighter from what I have read about him so far also. If he was friends with Zaknafiene I suppose he would be. His daggers can be thrown with lighting speed and seem to always hit their target and he's supposed to be great with a sword. He also knows how to speak Svirfneblin, survace language, and the lower worlds langauge. Where the heck did he learn all that? He is just a real genius!
All in all I think Jarlaxle is soooo cool and if he were real I'd probably ask him to marry me. At least I'd never be bored!
There are so many questions about Jarlaxle. Who is he exactly? What house did he come from? Why is he like he is? How did he start or gain Bregan D'aerthe? When did it all happen? Where did he come from?
I hope many of those questions will be answered in the future books! |
