International Trade - Affects Everyone!

International trade is the exchange of goods and services across international borders. While international trade has been present throughout much of history, its economic, social, and political importance have been on the rise in recent decades, mainly because of advances in transportation and communication, multinational corporations, outsourcing and the increasing prevalence of international trade.

As an American student you might ask, how does international trade affect me? Well, let's see . . .

It affects what type of jobs will be available to you when you finish high school or college.
It affects how much money you will make in many cases and how much job security you will enjoy.
International trade determines what goods and services are available to you and how much they will cost (i.e. the price of gas when you fill up your car, the price of your new cell phone, etc.)
International trade has a major impact on our world environment (global warming, air and water quality, etc.)
International trade affects the foreign relations policies of governments around the world and the prospects for world peace or conflict.
From a human perspective, international trade has an impact on who is forced to live in desperate poverty and who enjoys a much higher standard of living.

Do you think you might be interested in helping to formulate U.S. trade policy and having some input on these major issues that will continue to affect your life?

This web quest will ask you to join one of the task forces that are being formed by the Republican National Committee or the National Democratic Committee to formulate their international trade policy for the next elections. International trade is a complex business so several different "experts" will be needed to be sure that all bases are covered. Are you up for the challenge? Proceed to the task when you are ready.
