The Room Plain Revisited [070103]
(Still for Theophane Boyd)

The room plain to see
is collected by four walls.

Nothing unusual there.

As you might expect also
there's a ceiling overhead
yet lower than your habit
and beneath your feet
flooring made of stone.

Like every room you have
ever been in this one has
a way in that serves
as well, a way out.

You respect the space
and it's arrangement
yet you in no way expect
to be confined there
the day long like the lot
before you, long ago.

All rooms by degree fit
the description you set
still this one's an exception.

For
this one's
a monk's cell
and what sets it
apart really are
its very dimensions.
It sits cave-like coffin-size.
