Of course, the field of philosophy entire, being about 2500 years old today, more or less, shows an extensive role for God to play from time to time, often distinguished, sometimes notorious.
But with mans coming of age, so-given to his generation by Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and the coming world civilization, so-called by William Ernest Hockingboth of whom favored some sort of social deitythe divines demise became front-page news and even theological seminarians had to pay attention to The Death of God. Thomas Altizer deserves credit as the leading thinker of depth on record for no one else proved as adept or bold at prospecting for gold in that minefield. The Sixties as a culturally iconographic period never quite recovered from the odd press all that produced.
Perhaps long hair was too hollow a symbol. |
