Thanks for visiting our site! We are a new campus club and organization and hope to be around for a long time to come! The Gay Rights Movement traces its origins to the 1969 Stonewall Riots, and it has come a long way. But, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans, as well as people all over the world, continue to face inequality and discrimination in society. In fact, there are endless examples of injustice. Have a look at our "resources" and "did you know?" sections with the links on the left.
During the past year, both US Supreme Court and state court cases, as well as the Democratic Presidential debates, have brought issues of LGBT inequality and discrimination to the national level. The gay marriage debate promises to continue that exposure for quite a while to come. We believe that education is the best way for people to better understand the discrimination and issues faced by the LGBT community. Social workers are especially responsible for being educated on these issues.
