The Human Rights Campaign, a national organization working for LGBT equal rights, has compiled a section on workplace discrimination and lists corporations and institutions with equal employment practices, policies and benefits.
Check up on your employer (or another company that you are curious about).

There's more ...

The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) conducted a 2001 survey of 904 LGBT students from 48 states: Over 84% of LGBT youth reported frequently hearing homophobic comments in their schools. Also:

69% of LGBT students reported verbal harassment
65% reported sexual harassment
42% reported physical harassment (shoving, hitting)
21% reported physical assault (being beaten, punched, kicked, etc)

The Human Rights Watch website features suggestions, including sample letters that you can write to ask school and elected officials to make sure that antidiscrimination policies include sexual orientation. And you can read more about the Human Rights Watch study by clicking here.
