Resume Tips

A great resume is an important document that displays your credits and shows your a personal accomplishments.  There are several styles of resumes and each individual has certain information that they choose to express about themselves.  You will be told several ways on what to put on your resume, but your way is the way that is really going to satisfy you.  Agents, managers, etc., will chose to market you in the way they see fit.  Again, everyone's different.  Maintaining your creative control is very challenging when you don't know your direction.  You will gain it through education and experience.  Here are a few pointers about the areas that your resume should include.

Your Name should be at the top in a medium Font, preferably in the middle, but you can choose right or left if you like.

Your name should be at the top of the page.  Height, weight, eye and hair color should be in the upper left or right corner.

The phone number of your agent, manager or your number should appear across from your personal characteristics.

Include the area that you have had experience, such as, theatre, television, dance, education, training, hobbies, etc.

Don't over crowd your resume.  Make it look neat.

I hope these tips help you get the jobs that you want.  Always remember, if you don't get hired for the job, it's their loss.  Every role won't be for you so don't get discouraged.  Stay persistent and the right part will come your way.

Photo Tips

Economizing is your priority and don’t get caught up in the politics.

There are standards for headshots, but don’t get caught up into it.

Take creative control on the pictures you choose.

Perfect pictures are expensive; not to mention the façade it displays.

Sometimes flaws add for a certain character that the casting director is looking for.

Look at other headshots to get other ideas.

Find a friend or student photographer with a 35mm camera and examine the quality of pictures it produces.

Buy at least two rolls 24 exposure film and get it developed yourself, unless the photographer insist on developing it for practice.

Decide on different poses and looks.  Take head and body shots.

Guide the photographer.  Look at him through the lens and give him suggestions on how to shoot you.

Try different poses and wear a variety of clothing.

Use a foundation (makeup) to cover the shine on your face.
Preferably a slight darker tone for black and white film.  The light will lighten you.  If you like, use a pencil to darken facial hair.

Crop your own pictures and add your own name.  Companies will charge you high prices to add it.  Choose a font that is easy to read and a size that is not too big.   Glue stick it or back tape it to the bottom middle, left or right border.

Take your rolls of film to a photo lab and get proof sheets.  They are less expensive.  Use their lighting board table and special magnifier to view you shots.

After you make your selections, get a sample 8x10 and see if you like it.  If you do, add your name and get another test shot.  It will come with a border unless you ask for a borderless picture.

Order only the amount of pictures you may need.  You or your agent may decide on a different look.

Remember: You are your best and worst critic.  Look for the positives in yourself, the negatives are always easy to find.

Well, you are on your way to picture heaven.  Enjoy the ride and .........

  Go To Your Destiny!
