Face's Youthful Wanderings

Each person, as he goes through life, has many teachers. Some are excellent and teach us many things while otheres never leave much of an impression. The following free-verse poem is one that can be added to as years go by, but never deducted from. The names may change from person to person but the meaning stays realitively the same and to me, these were my...

SPECIAL TEACHERS

Mrs Freed taught me that creativity is important
Mr Wilson gave me the chance to use mine

Mr Keeny taught about the world around me
Mr Denny gave me insight to its people

Mr Snavely taught of math complexities
Miss Brannon gave them meaning in life

Miss Butler taught me how to write poetry
Miss Reamy gave me the chance to see it in print

Mr Sherbo taught me how to express myself
Mrs Ruby gave me the confidence I needed

Mr Lenhart introduced me to the concept of reading for pleasure
Mr Bryan taught me that each book is like a river and that no matter how shallow it appears, it has currents and eddies worth exploring

Mrs McKinley taught me to strive for excellence
and
My parents gave me the chance to win.

My Love,
Life is a lonely jail and hate is the keeper. The walls of pain encase...suffocate me. Icy fingers of fear clutch at my heart as searing knives of frustration tear my soul to shreds. And yet, I cannot weep. My heart cries out in sorrow, pleading piteously for you to return to me, yet I know it cannot be. Death, a dark brooding statue faces me, offering one small chance at escape and peace. His sightless eyes show me and empty future as I gaze into thier murky darkness. A future full of misery and pain. Desperation forces me to lift the blade, so heavy yet alive. As I plunge it into my breast, it drinks my lifes blood, winking mercilessly in the moonlight. It throbs with my heart, keeping perfect time and I hear wild laughter in the distance. For a moment, recriminations, yet there's no turning back ... and as I take my last breath, I softly say your name, then close my eyes for peace everlasting...

Staring into the fire
not feeling the warmth
just thinking
Suddenly
It all rushes back
bringing the pain
even fear
Memories--bittersweet
your beautiful brown eyes
flashing
with warmth and love
The fun
The joy
special "secret" moments
....memories....
Remembering
The last time you held me
and even with
the pain of death
Trying to comfort me
with a small smile
Your last words
So beautiful
So sad
Telling me
how much you loved me...

Long empty nights
so vast
so lonely
Knowing somewhere
maybe
just around the corner
there's someone
just for me.

For a fleeting moment
I thought I'd found you
hoping that quiet shadow
was the man
I'd dreamed of
Looking into his eyes
I saw it wasn't so
wanting so badly
needing
the other half of my soul
knowing somewhere
there's you
searching continuously
for me.

When we met we fell in love
We thought that
when we got married
It'd be "Happily ever after"

It didn't happen like that
for us
Our parents were against us
everyone said
we wouldn't...couldn't make it
It shook our confidence
in ourselves
in each other
and yet we survived

Although we may have hurt
and hated
each other at times
with a little understanding
and a lot of love
we stuck with it
And made our marriage work

I'm glad
for now that I look back
I clearly see

Without you...
these last fifty years
wouldn't have been
Worth living for...

Graduation 1

With the best of wishes
and hopes of dreams
we journey on our way

With best of friends
and happy thoughts
we start a brand new day

Graduation 2

The time or leaving is very near
and as the memories rush upon us
we remember...
Old teachers and good friends
time so short, yet so long
Dreams of the future
tears and laughter
echoing in the empty halls
Pomp and Circumstance billowing out
marching in procession
Good wishes
Last farewells
and we begin our journey
into the future.

Epitath: Old Age

I have tried to live my life
The best way I could
And although I've made
Many mistakes along the way
I have given my best

Grieve not for me
I need no tears
Only joy and warmth
For I have loved and been loved

I have been blessed with old age
And have seen my children
And thier children
Grow and prosper

I now rejoice
For at last I shall see my Savior
In whom I have believed
and served
All these years

So smile and laugh
For life goes on.

THANKS

Through the tears and pain
The sunshine and rain
you learned and loved
And helped us grow
With endless patience

For years of your life
With pressures and strife
your gave us a chance
To respect and love
those around us.

For all of that and more
I thank you for being
The best parents
ever!

Parents
What a beautiful word
Chosen
for two beautiful people

Though we never had much money
we were rich in something
that can never be bought

Love

I love you for the late nights
The worried frowns
For the tears and smiles
and for what you did without
So I wouldn't have to

But most of all
I love you
for being who you are
My Parents

KID STUFF

Stuffed animals
koolaid, ice cold popsicles
and pets

Believing in everyone and everything
('specially Prince Charming)
because you haven't learned how
to hate
or lie

Asking questions, telling jokes
going to school
Singing with records and radios
knowing every TV commercial
by heart
But above all
Childhood is Growing
and laughing
and loving

CRAYON BOX

Silver is the color of pocket change
and blue the color of skies
Gold is the bullseye on a target range
green's the color of my eyes

Purple is the color of Queens and Kings
While tan is the color of does
White is diamonds in wedding rings
Reds make Christmas bows
