Spookie, the Christmas Kitty, 2004. She loved to lay under the Christmas tree every year and in Mary Ann's Christmas Village: that's why we started calling her the "Christmas Kitty". Where she is now, it's always Christmas.

In June 1977, Mary Ann and I made a trip to the Smoky's in her dad's Volkswagon Van Camper. What a time we had! We camped at Elkmont campground one night, and upon leaving the next day, we stopped alongside the road and I carved our initials into a tree. Several times since then we've tried to locate the tree but all attempts failed. In January 2005 while staying on a long weekend at Townsend, we went to Elkmont, all closed for the winter, and upon leaving and headed back toward Townsend I pulled off the road at a spot where the river was near. It suddenly dawned on me that "this place is familiar". I looked, and there, still carved into that tree, but dimmed because of the years, was our initials.

Here's our first RV, a 1970 VW Camper owned by Mary Ann's Dad. This photo was made in 1976 or 1977. That's Mary Ann sitting in the door.
