Summerhill Centre, Hartlepool.  Sun. 26th Oct.
Middlesbrough's Richard Morrell won his second successive Senior Mens' event, at yesterday's North Yorkshire and South Durham Cross Country League fixture at Summerhill Centre, Hartlepool.
In the muddy conditions, Morrell dropped his main rival, Lewis Gamble-Thompson of New Marske, after the first of the three laps.
Guesting International runner, Sarah Tunstall making the relatively short trip from Kirkby Stephen, proved too classy for the Senior Womens' field, coming home well clear of Carolyn Summersgill of Middlesbrough & Cleveland.

Start Fitness North Eastern Harrier League Sherman Cup and Davison Shield.
Temple Park, South Shields.  Sat. 25th Oct.
Gateshead Harriers took the Sherman Cup Trophy for the first time since 1993, at Saturday's Start Fitness North Eastern Harrier League promotion at a very windy Temple Park, South Shields. The Tyneside club ended Morpeth's run of six successive victories.
Gateshead and Sunderland fought out a close battle throughout, the pair actually tying on points in the Senior Mens' event. However, a better performance in the final event for Under 17 Men ensured victory for Gateshead. The competition was for the best overall performance in the four age-groups. Morpeth lost any chances, when they failed to complete a team in the Under 15 Boys' race, but still finished third with the best three-event score.
Morpeth did however win the equivalent competition for Women, the Davison Shield for the fifth successive year. They were the only team to complete teams in all four events. Gateshead and Sunderland took the minor placings on the three-event rule.
In the individual races, Sunderland's Gavin Massingham won a highly competitive Senior Mens' race using his superior track speed, to sprint to victory in the final 300m. Claremont's Peter Newton held off Junior International Ross Murray of Gateshead for second place.
Gateshead's Kim Simpson repeated her 2007 victory in the Senior Womens' race. Elswick's Judith Nutt, who 6 days earlier won the Great Cumbrian Half Marathon at Carlisle, took second place ahead of Jo Zoppi, whose club Heaton, won the team event for the third time in four years.
Michael Priestley of North Shields Poly comfortably defeated Junior Great North Run winner Marcus Cram of Morpeth in the Under 17 Mens' race.
Guest runner Kristina Grant of Middlesbrough won the Junior Womens' race from Jarrow newcomer Catlin Lloyd.
Other victories went to Cameron Boyek of Shildon (Under 15 Boys), Charmaine Porter of Sunderland (Under 15 Girls), Robbie Loraine of Gateshead (Under 13 Boys), and Sophie Forster of Birtley (Under 13 Girls).

Hellhole 10km Multi Terrain.
Tanfield Lea, Stanley.  Sun. 19th Oct.
Stewart Bell of Chester Le Street repeated his 2007 victory in yesterday's second Hellhole 10km Multi Terrain event at Tanfield Lea.
The British Masters 10M champion soon headed the field closely followed by James Buis of Heaton and Jarrow teenager, Greg Ritchie.
On the hilly course,
Bell soon opened a 100m lead over Buis, but the gap was closed in the final kilometre with Bell crossing the finish line 8secs ahead of his rival.
Visiting athlete James Jarvis finished in an isolated third position.
The recent rainfall meant the times for the course were a lot slower than last year's inaugural event.
Relative newcomer, Sarah Lister of Blackhill Bounders, improved on her fifth placing in 2007, to win the Womens' race. Heaton's Fiona Turley took second place.

Additional Comments: Most of info used. Results courtesy of Mrs Waugh. Apparently 1600 runners in both races. First three times were agreed with hand times, but the rest (chip) were 2-3secs on quick side. Looks like 5th runner across line (manually timed at around 14:13) in younger race, has been omitted from original result. In older race, E Smith (17th girl) listed as Gloucestershire Schools, but she wore something like a Gateshead vest, which was very similar to that of Bristol & West. Weather wet for race 1 but turned out bright and dry for race 2. Extra results: 23 S Barras 12:44; 25 R Loraine 12:48; 27 J Nisbet 12:55; 28 G Urwin 12:56.
