Start Fitness North Eastern Harrier League Sherman Cup and Davison Shield.
Temple Park, South Shields. Sat. 27th Oct.
Morpeth Harriers won the Mens' Sherman Cup for the 6th year in succession, and the Womens' Davison Shield for the 4th successive year, at Temple Park on Saturday.
The competition is to find the strongest overall club in the four age-groups.
In the Mens' competition, Morpeth trailed both Sunderland and Gateshead, before the final event for Under 17's, but a clear team victory saw them narrowly take the title by 3 points from Gateshead with Sunderland in third place.
In the Womens' competition, Morpeth were unopposed, when they were the only club to field three runners, in the penultimate Junior event.
On the strength of three races, Gateshead again took second place from Houghton.
In the individual races, Chris Lamb of Chester Le Street dropped his main rival, Matthew Nicholson of Gosforth on the second of three laps, in the Senior Mens' event.
Morpeth's Mark Brown took third place after a close battle with Sunderland's Steven Potts.
Rob Hand was the first veteran in 6th place, leading Durham City to a narrow team victory.
Gateshead newcomer, Kim Simpson comfortably won the Senior Womens' race from Sunderland's Michelle Holt, who overhauled Morpeth's Aiveen Fox with 800m remaining.
Schools Internationals, Laura Weightman of Morpeth and Kate Avery of Shildon, outclassed the oppositon in the Junior Womens' race.
Gosforth's Rosie King impressively won the Under 15 Girls' race, with clubmate Michael Priestley winning a good quality Under 15 Boys' event.
