Elswick Harriers Norman Woodcock
Memorial 5M Road Race.
High Gosforth Park. Sat. 24th
Nov.
Morpeth's Dan Samuels strode to a
comfortable victory in Saturday's Warburtons - sponsored Elswick
Harriers Norman Woodcock Memorial Road Race, at High Gosforth Park.
The event was held on a new
course, which included two laps of the track outside
the Racecourse.
In the windy but thankfully dry
conditions, Samuels was joined by Matthew Nicholson of Gosforth in the
early stages, before dropping his rival at the halfway point.
Samuels margin of victory over
Nicholson was 41secs.
James Buis moved up three places on
the final circuit to take 3rd place, leading Heaton to the team victory.
Tommy Brannon of North Shields Poly,
was the leading veteran, in 7th position.
Angela Hibbs of Claremont, 3rd Briton
in the recent New York Marathon, repeated her 2006 victory in the
Womens' race.
Hibbs, who finished 25th
overall, caught long-time leader, Scottish veteran, Fiona Matheson
in the closing stages winning by only 2secs. New Chester Le Street
recruit, Fiona Burnie finished 3rd, leading her club to another team
victory.

Shibdon Pond, Blaydon. Sun. 18th
Nov.
Morpeth Harriers completed a
successful weekend when taking the overall team title, in the Senior

past eight seasons, could only manage 8th place on this occasion.
The individual race was won by 800m

Coffer and Gareth Lloyd of Durham, on the last of the three laps. Teate
led Gateshead to victory in Division 3.
Morpeth's Mark Brown clocked the

fastest medium pack runner, Ross Floyd, who showing some of his old
form, finished in 15th place.
Michelle Holt of Sunderland, reversed
Sherman Cup placings with Gateshead's Kim Simpson, to win the Womens'
race. Simpson bulit up a sizeable lead early on, but Holt caught her
rival halfway round the final circuit.
Alyson Dixon of Chester Le Street
clocked the fastest time, finishing in 7th position.
Sunderland took the team title from
Chester Le Street.
Holt's time was surpassed by Blaydon's
Helen Gertig, who was quickest in the Junior race, when finishing third.
Tynedale's Tristan Venus, last
season's Under 15 champion, won the Under 17 race, clocking the
quickest time.
Marcus Cram of Morpeth, was the
fastest Under 15 runner, finishing in 10th position. In the
corresponding Girls' race, Rachael Lundgren of Gosforth clocked
the quickest time in 7th position.

59th Brampton to Carlisle 10M Road
Race.
Sat. 17th Nov.
Morpeth Harrier Michael Morris made a
late bid for victory in Saturday's Brampton to Carlisle Road Race.
Ricky Lightfoot from Ellenborough took
the lead from the start opening up a 50secs lead at the halfway point
(25:49). However, his efforts in the windy conditions started to
tell in the final 3M, with Morris along with previous winner, Michael
Scott of Border catching the leader just after 9M.
Morris kicked away with 800m remaining
with Lightfoot holding on to second place ahead of Scott, who was the
leading veteran.
Morris, supported by Paul Waterston in
an excellent 12th position and David Swinburne 26th, led Morpeth to a
narrow team victory over Border.
Scottish International, Hayley
Haining, winner in 2004 and 2005, finished in an excellent 8th position
in the 600-strong field, to easily win the Womens' race.
Former Newcastle University students,
Rebecca Robinson of Kendal and new Gateshead recruit Jessica Trowbridge
took the minor awards, the latter smashing her previous best figures.
Morpeth again took the team title.

Heaton Harriers Memorial Open Road
Races.
Exhibition Park / Town Moor.
Sun. 11th Nov.
Claremont's Peter Newton defied the
cold windy conditions, to win yesterday's Heaton Harriers Memorial Town
Moor 10km Road Race.
Newton together with Ryan Stephenson
of North Shields Poly, soon headed the record field of 370 runners,
with Newton dropping his rival on the second of the two laps. Chris
Muir of South Shields finished in an isoluted third position. Les
Atkinson of Morpeth was the leading veteran in 7th position.
Elswick retained the team title, led
home by 5th placed Paul Turner.
Wirral's Helen Lawrence shaved a
second off the 2004 record in the Womens' race to win a £100
bonus. Lawrence, who finished in 15th position, came home with 86secs
to spare over Tracy Laws of Chester Le Street, who along with Maxine
Czarnecka (3rd) and 2006 winner, Angela Hunter (5th) combined to take
the team title for the Durham club.
Highlight of the young athletes races
was the Under 13 victory of Charmaine Porter of Sunderland, who
defeated all her male rivals and knocked a massive 42secs off the
course record. Her time also bettered the Under 15 Girls' course
record by 7secs.
The second running of the Under 11
race saw Luca Irvine of Sunderland and Sarah Wilkes of Morpeth
bettering the previous figures.
Jack Moore of Jarrow and Hebburn
(Under 17 Men), Zoe Armstrong of Morpeth (Under 17 Women), Shaun Barras
of Jarrow and Hebburn (Under 15 Boys), Hannah Rank of Morpeth (Under
15 Girls) and Adrian Bailes of Birtley (Under 13 Boys) were the
other winners.

of SW race much better. Results courtesy of George, Audrey and Vera.
Weather was bright but cold, but wind only strengthened just before
Senior race started. Syd Robson dropped out, along with among others,
Ieuan Ellis. Not sure if Louise Noble started, but she does not like
cold. In attendance jogging around, were Ian Hudspith and Freya Murray.
Dave Whitmore finished 304th (51:55). In JM race, Darlington were on
paper 1st team , but two would not count yet. James Buis sidelined with
a
slight injury. George R and Eric A were lead and trail bikes,
respectively. Other Heaton performances on HH website.

Gibside Estate, Rowlands Gill.
Sun. 4th Nov.
Stewart Bell of Chester Le Street won
yesterday's Fruit Bowl Trail Race at Gibside Estate, for the 4th
successive year. It was also Bell's 7th victory in the events' 11 year
history.
Bell, now a veteran, was shadowed all
the way on the testing course, by Morpeth's Neil Wilkinson, coming
home with 9secs to spare over his rival. Heaton's James Buis finished
in an isolated third position.
Gateshead's new recruit Kim Simpson
repeated her Sherman Cup victory, from last weekend, finishing well
clear of Tynedale veterans, Karen Robertson and Sonia Morley.

Saucony English Cross Country Relay
Championships.
Berry Hill Park, Mansfield. Sat.
3rd Nov.
Sunderland Harriers took the bronze
medal in the Under 15 Boys' event at Saturday's National Cross Country
Relays at Berry Hill Park, Mansfield.
The team was Philip Hope, Scott
Younger and Jake Archer, with Younger clocking the day's fastest time
when moving up from 64th to 3rd on leg 2.
The Wearsiders also finished 11th in
the Senior Mens' event.
Chester Le Street finished in 5th
position in the Senior Womens' race.
(Newcastle Journal: Mon. 5th November 2007).
Additional Comments: Slightly edited. This was only information
available, courtesy of Bill McGuirk, up to midday Sunday. Did not have
time to check after this, but it is disgraceful that a National event,
does not get the results on site, by Saturday pm. Up to two years ago
the results were issued quickly. I know what the problem is (a leading
ECCU Official's love of the chip system). Weather was "like a summer's
day".
Detailed results (courtesy of AW). Times produced (illegally) in
hundredths, so have rounded up/down accordingly. Looking (eventually)
through all results I think there a lot of errors in split times.
