There would have to be a query on leading Womens' results, as an
observer thought Aiveen Fox finished 2nd.

North Eastern Counties A.A
Championships.
Sat/Sun. 10th/11th May.
There were records galore at
this weekend's North Eastern Counties Track and Field Championships, at
Gateshead International Stadium. The bright, warm and sunny
weather certainly ensured the Sprinting and Jumping conditions were
ideal.
English Schools 100m champion,
Richard Kilty of Gateshead broke the records in both the Under 20 100m
and 200m. In the shorter sprint, Kilty bettered his own figures with a
legal following wind. However, his time in the 200m where he improved
on the ten-year-old mark by 0.19secs, was assisted by a following wind,
which was over the allowed limit.
Richard Hodgson of
Middlesbrough, the A.A.A Indoor 60m champion, did break the records in
both the Under 15 100m and 200m with legal times.
Leading performances on the
first day came in the Pole Vault, where Sale's Mark Christie bettered
his old figures twice in the Senior event. In the Under 17 age-group,
Gateshead's Tim Parkin broke the 17-year-old record by
12cms, clearing a personal best height to take the lead in the UK
rankings.
Gateshead's Sally Scott set new
figures in the Under 20 womens' event.
Morpeth's Laura Weightman, the
2007 English Schools' 1500m champion, set new figures in the Under 20
800m, taking 3secs off her personal best time.
Weightman however, lost her own
record in the Under 17 1500m to Shildon's Kate Avery.
Early records were set by
Birtley's Robbie Loraine in the Under 13 1500m, Newcastle University
student, Sarah Dunkley in the Senior Javelin and Craig Fiddes of
Blaydon in the Under 20 Triple Jump.
Gateshead's Kate Murphy twice
broke the record in the Under 13 200m and also took the 100m and Long
Jump titles.
Ashley Wood of Middlesbrough
bettered the old figures set in 1992, in the Under 17 Long Jump by 1cm,
and also won a good quality 80m Hurdles.
Sisters Emma and Hannah
Pringle of Gateshead, broke the records in the Under 17 and Under 15
Triple Jumps, respectively. Morpeth's Joe Robertshaw retained his Under
13 200m title, breaking the record twice, his heat time of 27.38secs
being a legal mark.
The Middlesbrough pair of Helen
Corrigan and Kayleigh Sullivan set new records in the Under 17 and
Under 20 Hammer, respectively.
In the Senior events, Trafford's
Nisha Desai gained a treble victory in the Womens' 400m, 800m and
400m Hurdles.
Leslie Richards of York won the
Discus and the Shot on countback from his great rival, Craig Sturrock
of Gateshead.

Additional Comments: Most of info used. Results courtesy of Jenny
Tinkler. An excellent debut by the Flannery / Kaufman team A
successful two days of
competition, though felt there were too many time gaps in later stages
of programme (especially Day 2). Weather bright and sunny but a cooler
breeze
blowing on Day 2. Kilty's 100m time was a pb by 0.01secs. Sorry but
completely overlooked, when submitting report. Mention must also go to
a successful return for
Stacey Smith (she was completely out-ran in first 200m of 400m, but
finished stronger than anyone) and to Amy Fleming, who seems to have
been forgotten since the end of 2007 season. Five runners in 10000m
(other placings: 4 B Murray 48:18.2; 5 D Lawther 52:20.5). Turn-out in
Senior events was poor (only heats in SM 100m) and standard was not
great in some events. Heat times included: U20M: 100(-1.5): 1 R Kilty
10.79 (=CBP) 200 (1.2): 1 R Kilty 21.80 U13: 200 (1.3): 1 J

wind-assisted times still count as CBPs, but not for individual record
(eg. UK U20) purposes.

Wallsend Harriers Gordon Smith
Memorial Road Relay.
Wallsend. Wed.
7th May.
Wallsend Harriers
repeated their 2007
victory, at their own Gordon Smith Relay promotion and bettered the
course record set last year.
North Shields Poly
led for the first
two legs, before Mark Fenwick moved Wallsend from joint second place on
leg 2, to a 39secs victory over their North Tyneside rivals. Fenwick
also bettered his own course record set last year.
On what was an ideal
night for
running, Chester Le Street also were in record breaking mood, retaining
the Womens' title and bettering their old figures by 49secs. For good
measure it was their B team who won relegating the A team into second
place. Claire Simpson on leg 1 for the A squad, clocked the
fastest time.

Dewdney easily bettered old figures, but lost Intermediate record
(12secs) to Liddell. JB. 400m winner probably T Kimpson (York).
