Additional Comments: Came away with the odd missing result, and hoped to get it from website, when I got home. However, could not access site until a lot later than deadline. Extra results included: U20M 200: 1 C Dickinson (Pres) 21.81; 2 D Daniel (NEB) 22.08. U20 TJ: 1 G Matthews (CoStoke) 14.58; 3 A Babatunde 12.87  U15B HJ: 1 R Byers (Seat) 1.86. An excellent weekend for Tony Livingstone's throwers. Kieran Flannery hit final Hurdle and sustained slight injury, causing him not to risk tackling 800m also. Sean Hall  finished 3rd in U20 Steeplechase, but was disqualified for "minor" infringement. As it did not affect race result in any way, I feel this was very harsh. Additional Comments: All info used (courtesy of Team Decathlon website by 7.30pm). Later info about Coleby from Richard Hunter, surprisingly used. Bright and blustery on Day 1 with one half hour shower. Excellent entry in younger age-groups (especially girls). However poor turn-out in Junior/Senior (also U13 boys) events, which is probably why meetings ran reasonably to timetable. Discus events were held in Gateshead.  In U15 Boys 800m, Daniel Leadbitter was surprisingly the quickest (2:17.5) winning from Niall Flannery (2:21.8). P Goessen won other heat (2:18.8). Also included were inaugural (in modern times) Race Walking Championships (info too late for Journal but will include next Monday 30th).

North Eastern Counties A.A Track and Field Championships.
Gateshead International Stadium. Sat/Sun. 14th/15th May.
Nine records were set, over the two days of the North Eastern Counties Track and Field Championships, at Gateshead International Stadium. Kieran Flannery of Gateshead opened the second day's proceedings by breaking his own record in the Under 20 400m Hurdles. He returned later to win the 800m. Emma Morris of South Shields, the 2004 English Schools champion, broke her own record in the Under 20 High Jump. Lianne Tucker of Blaydon, also bettered her own figures in the Under 20 Shot, after achieving the same feat in the Discus on Saturday. Mark Christie of Sale (Senior Pole Vault), Claire Griss (Senior Discus), Sally Scott of Gateshead (Under 15 Pole Vault), and Hannah Conroy of Middlesbrough (Under 20 Javelin) also set records on the first day. The gusty conditions on Saturday meant only one track record was broken when James Robson of Gateshead set new figures in the 1500m. He returned yesterday to take the 800m title.
Rabah Yusuf of Border gained a double victory in the Senior 200m and 400m, while Morpeth's Nick McCormick led from gun to tape to take the Senior 800m title. Liam Collins of Gateshead won the Senior 400m Hurdles. Claire Robson of Teesdale proved too quick for her rivals in the Senior 1500m, but Morag McDonnell and Alyson Dixon of Chester Le Street, better known for their exploits over longer distances, set personal best times in 2nd and 3rd place. Sam Hart of Gateshead, gained an impressive double victory in the Under 20 400m and 800m. Samantha Coleby of Durham, gained a double victory in the Under 17 75m Hurdles and Long Jump, and also finished 2nd to Lorna McMichael of Chester Le Street in a good quality 300m Hurdles.

Additional Comments: Only Day 1 results appeared as there were "technical" problems on Sunday night. (Report but no Day 2 results appeared on Tues 17th). I was also very late getting in copy (9.30) due to sorting results etc (AW was 12.45). Bright on both days, but cold and windy on Day 1, got sunny and warm on Day 2. Finishing time was 5.00pm on Day 1 and 5.20pm (Day 2). Results courtesy of Jenny Tinkler and "girls". Wind readings courtesy of Margaret Watson. Disappointing turn-out (again) of two in 10000m. Jamie Robson's 1500m time should read 4:48.92. Apologies to Sam Hart. Could not find her 400m result so used manual time. Correct result of U17W Triple Jump, should read  1 T Kennedy; 2 E Lawton (Gate). Lauren Dewdney stumbled on final Hurdle holding 3m lead, letting in Coleby. Laura McMichael withdrew from 300m final clocking  44.31secs in heat.
Special mention to Nicola Pearson for gaining an emphatic treble victory. Standard overall (if AW standards are to go by), at U15 level (both sexes) not very high.
Nick McCormick's bell time was 54.3. Bell time in SM 1500m was 3:07.

Chester Le Street gained some consolation easily winning the Womens' race. The Durham club were briefly headed by runners-up Elswick after leg 2, but Sarah Wilkinson pulled well away on the final leg, with the fastest time.

Additional Comments: Surprisingly most of info used. 36 teams started, which is a record turn-out by far. 32 teams finished ( 9 Women). (Gateshead Ladies B were 9th). weather was fine and sunny, getting colder as evening progressed.   Problems with results on night, as computer "went haywire" on leg 3, throwing wrong team against number with tail-end teams.
These I think are corrected results (thanks to Chris Robson). Records by Wallett (Vets), Wilkinson (SW and Vets) (her first W35 outing), and Chester Le Street Womens' team (by 6mins). Other fast times included: Alan Johnson 10:13, Claire Harrod 12:09 and Jacqui Elliott 12:21. C Willis, a new name to me, clocked a fast 12:53 running an impressive last leg for the Wallsend Ladies B team.  Heaton, who lined up five teams, had splits of Men: A: D Robins 11:24, M Miles 11:06, J Moore 10:05 (4th fastest) Total: 32:35  B: M Gibson 11:51, P Bhogal 12:08, S McEntee 12:05  Total: 36:04 (18th) C: D Stewart 13:00, B Craddock 12:39, G Routledge 16:46  Total: 42:25 (30th)  Women: A: S Atkinson 13:21, J Friend 13:27, K Beaumont 14:03  Total: 40:51 (28th)  B: P Gold 14:46, D Parker 14:30, M Finn 15:29  Total: 44:45 (31st). No intermediate leg positions were given, but John Moore moved up least 4 positions on leg 3.

Weekly Round-up

Additional Comments: All info used. Results courtesy of Mike Bateman, Brenda Johnston and team. Amended score (4pt swap) should read 2 Harrogate 334: 3 Darlington 283.  Bright afternoon early on,  but very heavy showers at regular intervals for final 1.5hrs of meeting. Cool breeze blowing. Standard not quit up to some of Morpeth's previous matches. Only two Grade 4 performances in Male Field events. RA was sole U17W 300m runner. Other results included: U15B 200: T Ord (Morp) 26.2  U17W:  1500: 1 L Dixon 5:23.1  80H: 1 R Pottinger 13.0  JT: 1 K Wilson 24.51 (pity there was no Hammer !). Pottinger also clocked 69.1secs, running last leg on winning (only) U17 4 x 400m Relay team. This is a new event, but why are U17 Girls only competing over 300m individually. Also introduced, very surprisingly, is U15G 300m.

Sun. 1st May.
Middlesbrough-Mandale easily won the opening North of England League Division 2 match at Shildon, yesterday.

Additional Comments: Most of info used. Final Division 2 results courtesy of Andy Ward, though final scores may need to be amended. Weather at Shildon was dull and windless early, but sun came out final hour (quite mild but got breezy). Division 3 info courtesy of Stuart Pailor, though final  scores will be added later. Apparently eight teams took part.
It looks like some teams are affected by a poor Womens' turn-out. This was certainly the case at Shildon. All teams would be weakened by clash with BUSA Championships. Why could this set of matches, in future not swap dates with opening YA League fixtures the following weekend ?
