Additional Comments: Info used but in small print. Dry but overcast.
Quite chilly. Quite an enjoyable meeting. Another youngster competing was
Paige Henaghan (CleS) (2nd in U15G 800 in 2:46.8). Very poor turn-out from
Under 17 Women. Stacey ran with Boys in 1500m. Tynedale looked the strongest
team on track, so match result a little surprising. Acting as a timekeeper
was Kirsty Hutton, who is having a low-key end-of-season, after recovering
from injury.. .
Info from Premier Division: Morpeth were fourth at Liverpool
and are relegated. Brian Kirkley was a track judge at Division 2 match
at Whitley Bay. Other results included (still no match involving Gateshead):

Northumberland Schools Minors Championships.
Tynedale Athletics Park, Hexham. Sat. 24th June.
Jessica Read of East Northumberland claimed the only record, at Saturday's
Northumberland Schools Minors Championships, at Tynedale Athletics Park,
Hexham. Read added 7cm on to the previous figures set in 1997 in the Under
13 Long Jump. She also won the 100m, narrowly missing the record in the
heat, when conditions were more ideal. Simeon Greenwood of Tynedale gained
a useful middle distance double in the Under 13 800m and 1500m.

Additional Comments: Only results sent. Very windy and quite chilly.
Sprints ran in opposite direction, hence no photo finish. No wind
readings taken, but I understand the figure was + 9mps for one race. I
dread to think how slow times would have been, running in normal direction.
Entry poorer than usual with only one 3000m for four age-groups. No one
for Hurdles or Steeplechase.
Other places in SW 100 included: 4 C Jones 12.7; 5 R Archer 13.0; 6
J Hodgson 13.0. John Moore finished 5th in 400m (56.43). Claire Taylor
finished 4th in 400m (61.14) M Best performances went unofficially
to Parkin and Young (her performance given conditions better than Scott's
Pole Vault). A surprise defeat (unbeaten in NEAL for 2 years) for Nicola
Pearson in 300m.

Inter Counties Schools Meeting.
Gateshead International Stadium.. Sat. 17th June.
The warm weather again brought fast times to the Gateshead International
Stadium, six days after Asafa Powell had equalled the World 100m record
on the same track. This time, competitors were having a last chance to
qualify for the Sainsbury's English Schools Championships, at the same
venue in July. Northumberland ended Durham's run of four victories
to win the Overall Trophy. Northumberland's top performers were Hurdlers,
Lauren Dewdney (Inter Girls ) and Rebecca Liddell (Junior Girls) with Inter
Counties Cross Country champion, Laura Weightman gaining victory in the
Inter 1500m. Stacey Smith looked an impressive winner of the Inter 800m
clocking a personal best time. For Durham, Kate Avery won the Junior 1500m
and will hope to add to the Cross Country title, gained at Mansfield. Sigourney
Bell won a good quality Junior 800m. Sam Coleby was impressive in the Inter
300m Hurdles, while 2004 English Schools Junior champion, Philip Collins
won a competitive Intermediate High Jump. Kate Wilson (Senior Hammer) and
Steve Reynolds (Inter Javelin) also excelled. Helen Gertig clocked a personal
best time to win the Inter Girls' 3000m and Philip Brown gained a double
victory in the Inter Shot.and Discus. Cumbria were strong on the field
and loked to have found a useful High Jumper, with J Hirst winning the
Junior event. Sam Coe, the Norfolk county champion, easily won the Inter
Hammer. Cleveland, without some of their stronger athletes, provided an
impressive winner of the Junior High Jump, Ashleigh Wood.

Additional Comments: Only results used, probably due to very busy weekend
of sport. Lovely day and even warm on Timekeeper's stand. Sprints probably
wind assisted but not as much as Hexham, 7 days earlier. No names taken
for Inter Boys 800m (not sure why ?). I have included known names (2 courtesy
of Martin Gordon). Probably Cumbrian winner was O Cartwright ?
Results courtesy of Dorothy Best. Inter Girls Sprint Relay team for
Durham, was Pearson, Welsh, Coleby and Wilmshurst. Dewdney and Davidson
ran first two legs for Northumberland (level with Durham at this point).

of East Northumberland, smashed the old record and their personal best
times, in the Senior Girls 3000m. Newcastle's Niall Flannery opened the
day, by clocking a personal best in the Intermediate 400m Hurdles and also
won the 100m Hurdles. Sally Scott of East Northumberland equalled her personal
best height, to set an inaugural record in the Intermediate Girls' Pole
Vault. North of England chaampion Tim Parkin also won the Junior Boys'
Pole Vault. Tynedale's Matt Williams clocked a fast time to win a good

North of England Track and Field League.
3rd June.
Gateshead took second place behind a strong Leeds City squad at the
North of England Northern League Division 1 meeting, at the International
Stadium. This was a much improved performance from their sixth place in
the first fixture. The Tynesiders had a strong Womens' team but struggled
in the Mens' section, due to the clash with the British League fixture.
Gateshead's best performances came in the Womens' 400m, when Vicky
Carmichael bettered her own previous figures by 0.3secs, which were set
when winning the recent North Eastern title. B string winner, Nicki Youden
also clocked a personal best time. Maximum points were also gained in the
200m by training partners, Lauren Arthur and Vicki Wester. Not surprisingly
Gateshead won both Relays. Mary Ferrier won the 1500m, while Emma Waterhouse
and Tracy Laws gained maximum points in the 3000m. County champion, Emma
Morris won the 100m Hurdles and High Jump. Former Wigan athlete, Emma Wooff
gained victory in the Long Jump and Triple Jump, while teenager, Sally
Scott won the Pole Vault.
Stewy Bell was the sole male winner, gaining an easy victory in the
5000m.
At the Division 2 and 3 meetings at Jarrow and Middlesbrough, North
East teams had to settle for the minor placings, behind Nestle Rowntrees
and Border, respectively. Blaydon comfortably won the Division 4 match,
at Chester Le Street.
