Michael Page Memorial 10km Multi Terrain.
Hetton Lyons Country Park, Hetton-le-Hole.  Sat. 30th Aug.
Sunderland Harrier Tim Field won the revived Michael Page 10km Multi Terrain event, at Hetton Lyons Country Park, on Saturday. The race, in memory of the past Houghton and Peterlee club secretary was last ran in 2000, and Field was first on that occasion. In the windy conditions, Field soon pulled away from his pursuers, coming home over 400m clear of Tim Hall of the host club. Another Sunderland Harrier, Graham Lancaster took third place ensuring a team victory for the Wearsiders. Peter Grey of Alnwick was the leading veteran in 5th place. Veteran international, Sheila Allen provided a home victory for Houghton and Peterlee, when easily winning the Womens' race, finishing in 8th place overall. Kelly McEntee of Heaton and Gillian Barry, also from Houghton, took the minor awards. The new course proved popular with the athletes, and the event will again take place in 2004.
Result.

(Newcastle Journal: Mon. 1st Sept 2003).

Additional Comments: Used in "Sports Shorts" and edited. Only 30 runners (3 women), which was very disappointing. Actually more officials/helpers/press in attendance. Event poorly advertised, with only 5 advance entries. Bright but a lot cooler, with quite a strong wind blowing. Tim, who gets married in December (info courtesy of Denis), liked course but not the wind. Sheila Allen also won in 2000. Other positions included 14 Archie Jenkins (recovering from a heavy fall during the week); 15 Roger Wilson; 26 Dave Whitmore and 30 Sid Robson 71:24. Heaton placings were 18 Allen Mulliss 45:44; 19 Malcolm Gibson 46:39; 23 Kelly McEntee; 24 Scott McEntee 48:19; 27 Eric Appleby and 29 George Routledge (he did not get prize, though there was a very generous prize list). Heaton were also 2nd in Veterans' team race. Only 3 clubs had more than 3 runners.

Morpeth Herald Report
(for 28th Aug).
Several Morpeth Harriers competed in the recent Jarrow Riverside 6M Road Race. Paul Johnson finished in 6th position in 33:02, and was the leading veteran. Chris Dentice in 20th place (35:51) was second in the Over 50 category. An excellent run by Sian Ellison in 39th place (37:23), gained the second Womens' prize behind Claire Smallwood of the host club. Paul Waterston finished in 40th (37:25) and Tony Ward in 65th (40:30) was the leading Over 55 finisher. Gwenda Cavill was 76th (41:14) and 2nd Over 35, while Bernie Cordes was 115th (44:10), taking second place in the Over 65 age-group.
Simon Dale was Morpeth's sole competitor at the A.A.A Under 17 and Under 15 Championships, at Sheffield. He progressed to the semi final stages of the Under 15 200m, clocking a time of 24.15secs.
Details of Morpeth Harriers performances at Gateshead Tartan Games will appear next week.

Additional Comments: Jarrow info sent by someone else (not sure who ? but if GP should have let me know). The twosome are on holiday from 24th Aug. Forgot about the coming weekend fixtures.

Weekly Round-up
(to 24th Aug).
At the Scottish Junior Championships at Grangemouth on 24th Aug, several North East athletes gained medals. Gold went to Ryan McLeod in the U20 5000m in 15:25.74 (though he was upset, as race was brought forward without allowing athetes to warm up), Craig Sturrock in the U20 Shot (14.17m), Keith Higham in the U20 Pole Vault (4.80m) and Kieran Flannery in the U17 400m Hurdles (55.34). Flannery was also 2nd in the 1500m Steeplechase (4:58.96). Suote Nyananyo was 2nd in the U20 110m Hurdles (15.38) and Long Jump (6.82m). Mark Christie was 2nd in the U20 Pole Vault (4.60m). Kirk Wilson was 3rd in the U20 1500m (3:59.50), with Mark Elliott 4th (4:00.43). As usual with Scottish events, did not know this meeting was on, until results were seen in AW. To the best of my knowledge, Emma Morris won 45minute Heptathlon at Hexham on 24th Aug, and a Middlesbrough Mandale athlete (unknown to Marg Watson) won Hour Decathlon (since confirmed as Dale Jordan). Steph Lamb was third in U15 Heptathlon, but won the North Eastern Counties' title. Her score of 2819 pts was made up of 12.4 (75mH), 1.43 (HJ), 4.85 (LJ), 9.16 (SP) and 28.19 (200m). Michelle Bratton was 2nd NE competitor (2173) and Sam Duffy 3rd (2097). The North East gained a clean sweep in the Boys' event with Andrew Smith's score of 2336 pts (12.1/80H, 1.40, 5.39, 9.16, 2:16.5), being too good for Joel Newby (2165) and Adam Dalby (2119). In the U13 Girls Triathlon, North East medallists were Amy Fleming (Newton Ayc) 1147pts and Chloe Gill 1111pts. The result of NE U13 Boys' event was 1 T Ord (Morp) 892; 2 S Atkinson (SSh) 653 and 3 J Smales (Blay) 301. Combined events info from Richard Hunter. Mike Walker was 4th and 1st M55 in the Dumfries Half Marathon (24th Aug), in a time of 83:44.

Additional Comments: Results courtesy of AW. Only these will be sent as it was old news. Border and Morpeth did not look to have strong teams out. Craig Telford gained excellent sprint double. Good run by Shaun Moralee in 800m. Again not sure if this competition is elite as NoEAA think it is, and would not think it was a "white" fixture for officials.

New Balance Auckland Castle 10km Road Race.
Bishop Auckland. Sun. 24th Aug.
Isaac Arusei made it the fifth Kenyan victory over the 850-strong field , in yesterday's 5th New Balance Auckland Castle 10km Road Race. Arusei along with fellow countryman, Johnson Muiruri broke away from the leading group of six athletes approaching the halfway point (14:47). Arusei dropped his rival in the final kilometre coming home to the finish in the beautiful castle grounds, with 9secs to spare over his rival. The performance was even more noteworthy, as he had slept very little, after spending the previous two days travelling from Nairobi. Kenyans Wilfred Cheserek and Wilson Kogo took the next two places, while Barnsley's John Mayock, in 5th position, earned a £500 subvention for being the first Briton home. Leading the local challenge was Stephen Hepples of Loftus, in 9th place, leading his club to the team title. Brian Rushworth of Sunderland in 12th position was the next of the region's athletes, also winning the veterans' contest. Russian Galina Alexandrova bettered the Womens' course record by 10 secs, when finishing 22nd position overall. In doing so she defeated 2002 winner and previous record holder, Miryam Wangari by 14secs, with Marathon International Debbie Robinson leading the British challenge and the veterans, in third place. The winner, 5th in the Russian 10000m championship, had finished 4th in the Blaydon race, on her previous visit to the region in June. Kathryn Waugh of Chester Le Street was the leading local runner in 8th place, just ahead of top veteran, Sheila Allen of Houghton and Peterlee.

(Newcastle Journal: Mon. 25th August 2003).

Additional Comments: All info used but in small print. Again an excellent race. 610+ finishers with last two clocking 1:30 after going off course. Results (apart from odd tail-enders) courtesy of Julian Waugh. Weather was ideal in sheltered parts of castle grounds, but was very hot and uncomfortable for home runners, in exposed part of course. Apologies to Sue Laws (123rd in 41:39), who was 2nd W45 and should have been listed here. AW report took a long time as I had to "concoct" 800 words. Km splits were 3:10 (mainly uphill, but this affected fast finishing times), 6:04, 9:01, 11:51, 14:47, 17:38, 20:33, 23:22 and 26:16. Three Britons led early on, before the Kenyons took over in the second kilometre. Mayock (7:47 for 3000m 5 days earlier) made comment about there being 7 hills on a "flat " course, but he said it made a change to running round tracks. Robinson works full time at Argos. Other personalities taking part included Stewart Bell (returning after injury, his first race since Balmoral) (28th in 34:06), Eamonn Martin (has had crippling injury lately) (99th in 40:04), 277 Mal Stephenson 46:56 and 383 Ray Laverick 50:11. Never heard of Borrowdale, who passed Eric on 2nd lap. Heaton performances were 209 Allen Mulliss 44:13; 244 John Josephs 45:37 and Eric 268th. They were actually 35th team. George Routledge was in attendance but could not get a late entry as limit (850) had been reached.

Gateshead Harriers 10th Tartan Games.
International Stadium.  Sat. 23rd Aug.
The majority of meeting records came in the field events, at Saturday's 10th Tartan Games, at Gateshead International Stadium. North of England champions, Ian Burns and Chris Weitz both of host club Gateshead, set new figures in the Senior Javelin and Long Jump, respectively. This was also a personal best outdoors for Weitz. English Schools' champion, Gavin Hill of Middlesbrough-Mandale, broke the old record in the Under 17 Discus (nb: he did not-sorry an error on my part !). Gateshead's Albert Kamara also bettered the old figures in the Under 15 Long Jump, as did former Gateshead Harrier, Claire Griss in the Senior Discus. On the track, performances were affected by the wind. However, English Schools bronze medallist, Andrew Lagan of Middlesbrough impressively won the Under 15 800m, and A.A.A finalist Alan Piggford of Hartlepool was the fastest in the Under 17 category.

Wind very slightly against sprinters early on, though grew gradually stronger as meeting progressed. Very long day, with (I think) record late finish (6.10pm). Backlog with results and could not send to AW until am Monday. Thanks to Chris (and Mrs) Betts, Vera and Sid and George and Audrey (field) for these. Many athletes inside their standard. 800m performances were good. Karen Johns chose to run with U15 Boys, which is why I have listed her as B winner. Good to see Sara Todd back. She has had a long-term injury and is restricted to sprint Hurdles events at present. Dopierala won 300m Hurdles event (ouside AW standard), but cannot find this result. John Moore was still "under weather" and did not compete in 800m.
Gary Pemberton (M50) leapt 4.79m (Long Jump) and 10.68m (Triple Jump), to finish 4th in both events.

Additional Comments: Not used on day but most info in on 21st. Weather bright but quite breezy (getting colder as race progressed). 175 finishers (Les Hindmarsh was joint 174th in 71:27). There were 84 advance, so a lot of late entries.
Slesser's best run for some time. An open race, for which Thompson and Walker would have been joint favourites. Claire won race for third successive year (as did J&H team).
Chris Dentice was second M50 (20th in 35:51) and Bernie Cordes was 2nd M65 (115th in 44:10). Sarah Evans was 70th in 41:00 and 1st Junior lady. Gwenda Cavill was 2nd W35 (76th in 41:14). Other personality's performances included 131 Mal Stephenson (46:01) and 170 David Tait 55:55.

A.A.A of England Under 17 and Under 15 Championships.
Don Valley Stadium, Sheffield.  Sat/Sun. 16th/17th Aug.
Gateshead Harriers Craig Crawford-Glanville and Kieran Flannery took the first two positions in the Under 17 400m Hurdles, at yesterday's A.A.A Young Athletes Championships, at Sheffield. Crawford-Glanville, the current English Schools' champion, clocked a personal best time (by three-tenths of a second) of 53.25secs, coming home ahead of Flannery whose time of 53.57secs, was over a second inside his previous best figures. Middlesbrough's Gavin Hill could not repeat his English and International Schools' victories, when finishing third in the Under 17 Discus, with a throw of 48.25metres.
(Newcastle Journal: Mon. 18th August 2003).

Additional Comments: Not used. This was rang up from Leeming Bar, and was expected by paper (footnote: used on 19th, but edited). Weather bright and sunny, little wind. A lot cooler on Sunday. Crawford-Glanville and Flannery won their heats (these times not available). However fastest heat time was by Edward Harrison. As final was only 3 hours later, he probably paid for that, as he dropped out at 300m after never being in contention. Dean Daniel was 4th in Under 17 210m (21.78). Apart from the silver medallist in Schools event, he came up against World Youth Games 100m and 200m (winner here) bronze medallists. Alan Piggford was 6th in U17 800m (1:56.70), after clocking pb's in semi-final (time not available) and final. Ashley Maddison was 5th in U15G Discus (31.85m), Rachel Abbs was 7th in U17W Long Jump (5.30m), Warren Roberts was 10th in U15B 1500m (4:18.7 a pb), Carley Jones clocked 43.22 in U17G 300m, but did not progress. Lauren Arthur clocked 13.00 in heat of U15G 100m and 26.56 in semi of 200m. Apart from this not a great weekend for North East athletes. However, a good event with some exciting competition. Richard Buck won 400m in championship record (47.71). Another Nestle Rowntree athlete, A Smith won the Under 15 800m (2:00.46), much to Richard and Doreen's delight. Emily Pidgeon broke another Jo Davis (Pavey) record in U15 1500m (4:29.28). AW did not publish all times, so some info not available..

City of Sunderland Sport in Parks Hetton Lyons Race.
Wed. 13th Aug.
Both course records were broken in the final race in the City of Sunderland Sport in Parks Series at Hetton Lyons Country Park, last night. New Morpeth recruit Nick McCormick took 12secs off the old figures, pulling away from previous record holder, Brian Rushworth of Sunderland on the second of the two laps. The runner-up was also inside his previous record. Rushworth's fellow clubmate and veteran, Tom Doughty took third place. Newcastle-based Salford Harrier, Sarah Wilkinson, having only her second race of the year, after being plagued with injury, bettered the old record in the Womens' race, by 22secs, when finishing in 11th place overall. The previous holder Claire Smallwood of Jarrow and Hebburn, took second place, with Kathryn Waugh of Chester Le Street finishing third.
Result.  Distance 4.8km.
1 N McCormick (Morp) 14:11 (Course Rec); 2 B Rushworth (Sun, M40) 14:18; 3 T Doughty (Sun, M40) 14:46; 4 R Walker (NSP) 14:53; 5 P Martin (Sun, U20) 14:57; 6 R Hand (Dur, M40) 15:41  M50 - K Elliott (Sun) 16:56  M60 - R Wilson (Sun) 18:02
Women: 1 S Wilkinson (Salf) 16:36 (Course Rec); 2 C Smallwood (J&H) 17:08; 3 K Waugh (CleS) 17:19; 4 S Evans (J&H, U20) 19:16; 5 V Booth (Sun) 20:11; 6 L Tweddle (H&P, U20) 21:14  W35 - A Cantle (Tyne Tri) 21:19)  W45 - S Wilson (NE Vets) 21:32
(Newcastle Journal: Thurs. 14th August 2003).

Additional Comments: Surprisingly most of info used (report slightly edited). Weather bright and fairly windy, but got quite cool as race progressed. Good event on nice course. 93 finishers (same as 2002) (Les Hindmarsh was 93rd in 33:05). McCormick was having his first race since August 2002. Wilkinson's previous run was in Lunchtime Handicap. Claire S set previous best both in 2001 and 2002. Rushworth is unsure of when he set record, but will guess at 1998. Prizes only in 10-year Veterans' categories. Not sure of 1st M45, but leading M55 was Len Christopher (17:49) and leading M65 was George Smith (19:55). Vin Tindle was 2nd M50 (17:15). Sole Heaton runner was Allen Mulliss (61st in 19:53). Sherwoods Darlington 10km Road Race.
Sun. 10th Aug.
Martin Scaife of Chester Le Street won yesterday's Sherwood Darlington 10km Road Race, for the 3rd successive year. Conditions could hardly have been worse, with thunder, lightning and driving rain throughout the duration of the event. As competitors moved onto the second of the two laps, there were also flooded roads to negotiate. Scaife soon headed the 900-strong field, increasing his lead throughout. Passing halfway in 15:30, he came home over 1.5minutes ahead of Peter Grime of Durham University, with Loftus veteran John Hunter taking third place. Loftus also took the team title and provided the first lady, Catherine Hare.
The former British Universities' Short Course Cross Country champion, came home in 25th position, 22secs ahead of last year's runner-up and 2001 winner, Bernadette Taylor of Darlington. The home club also won the team event, while another Darlington athlete, Alison Raw was the leading veteran, in 7th position.
Result.
1 M Scaife (CleS) 31:01; 2 P Grime (Dur U) 32:37; 3 J Hunter (Loft, M40) 32:53; 4 D Lockett (Salf) 33:04; 5 M McDonald (Low F) 33:05; 6 S Potts (Sun) 33:13; 7 M Grainger (Darl, M40) 33:36; 8 J Wardley (Scar) 34:29; 9 I Anderson (Knaves) 34:40; 10 S Miller (Wrekin) 35:04; 11 T Hardman (Elv, M40) 35:19; 12 R Williamson (Loft) 35:21; 13 M Bell (N Ayc, U20) 35:25; 14 S Purkiss (R&Z, M40) 35:43; 15 C Jeffries (Bill MH) 35:53   Further Veterans: M45 - 1 M Ingram (Crook) 37:02; 2 K Langridge (Crook) 37:33; 3 P Kelly (Darl) 37:40  M50 - I Scott (Quak) 36:25  M55 - 1 H Matthews (Els) 36:15; 2 M McNallyy (Els) 36:42; 3 N Scruton (Scar) 37:50; 4 M Walker (Gosf) 38:15  M60 - 1 R Wilson (Sun) 40:03; 2 R Sherwood (N Marske) 43:06  M65 - 1 R Phillipson (Blay) 43:41; 2 M Harper (N Marske) 44:30  M70 - E Appleby (Heat) 47:06  M75 - J Caddy (M&C) 56:18  Team: Loftus 37

(Newcastle Journal: Mon. 11th August 2003).

Additional Comments: Most of info used. As usual a good event despite attrocious weather. Beautiful summer's day until it clouded over 30mins before race began. Started to rain 2mins before start, gradually got worse with downpour starting 5mins into race. Wind gathered 5mins later. Did not ease off until 5mins before finish. Race could well have been called off, had timing been a few minutes different. Parts of course became dangerous with fallen trees and flooding etc. There were actually 741 finishers (results courtesy of Ian Thomas). As there were nearly 200 on-the-day entries, the figure of 900 for advance entries seemed rather inaccurate. Again over half the field were outside 50 mins. Sheila Allen lost three places in closing stages, as she stopped to tie her laces. Other stars taking part included Mal Stephenson (306th in 48:11) and Dave Whitmore (344th in 49:05). Brian Kirkley went in lead car, but I never saw him. Heaton fielded a team (3 runners), led by Allen Mulliss (218th in 45:27), Eric (272nd) and George Routledge (598th in 58:14). Eric's prize for second successive year, was a pair of running socks (supposed to be £10 in value, £20 in 2002).

Additional Comments: Slightly edited. Weather sunny and warm. Very poor turn out, though 14 competed in BMC 800m. Most in attendance thought that Readman was ahead of Smart in 100m. Only one M35 guest, B Robertson of North Shields Poly (39), who cleared a respectable 1.66m in High Jump (apparently Denis had no authority to invite those from 35 - 39 to compete as guests). Unofficially Bob Laidler won M70 + title, because Denis did not compete in Shot.
Other Heaton performers were Allen Mulliss, M45 5000m in 20:52.8 (not sure of position), George Routledge, 3rd in M55 Shot (7.33m), Discus (18.93m) and Javelin (21.95m) and Reg Checkley, 1st in M65 800m

North Eastern Athletics League.
Monkton Stadium, Jarrow. Wed. 6th Aug.
It was guesting field event athletes, who took the honours at the final meeting. In the perfect conditions, Mark Christie cleared a personal best height in the Pole Vault, taking him to the top of the British Junior rankings. Christie who cleared 5.11m on his third attempt, was later unsuccessful when trying for 5.21m. Chris Tomlinson struggling to regain form after injury, leapt 7.87m in the Long Jump, his best of the season, but still some way short of the World Championship qualifying standard. Another guest Michael Openshaw, ran away from the opposition consisting mainly of Juniors, in the 3000m. Adam Rogers maintained his good form to win the 400m. Gateshead easily won the Mens' trophy for the third successive year, and regained the Womens' award.

Additional Comments: As usual this is AW report/results. Tomlinson's winning effort was first jump, with no wind guage. This was brought out for other efforts and all readings were slightly more than -0.00m per sec. So quite legal. (nb. this section of report was re-written by AW). Weather was warm and sunny at least until 8.30.
Best performers were judged to be Rogers and Lianne Tucker. Steve Cram presented the awards for the previous meetings, but disappointingly quite a number did not turn up to collect. Tommy Brannon was a popular winner of B 3000m (9:30), but it was difficult seeding the A event, as 9 of the 34 entries were head-and-shoulders above the rest. Openshaw had wanted Vince W, to take him through 1km in 2:40, but it was 5secs slower. Some good performances but (3000m apart) entry was poor in most events (200m U13 was combined). Probably too many events, considering the pressure trying to get final League tables + best performers etc. If there had been 2 heats in another 6 events, the meeting would have had a very late finish.

Additional Comments: Results, courtesy of Val Gill and George and Audrey Ogle, only to be sent for Journal on 11th August. Too late a finish for good midweek coverage. 220 finishers. Very warm (humid) and sunny. Wall led from start, with Archer and Swinburne locked together for at least first 3M. Mile splits were 4:55, 10:25, 14:56, 20:29 and 25:52 (very irregular marks, due to terrain of course). Claire said she struggled over the distance, as it is first time she has tackled anything over 3M, since her injury. Only first eight inside AW Senior standard, which is least since event started.
All veteran Women listed as W35, which does not help with AW results. John Moore was an isolated 4th for most of race. He and Eric were having their first run in this event.
Heaton only had six runners for GP (GR was working and, I assume AM was at Newcastle-Bayern Munich match). Other Placings: 102 Scott McEntee 43:44; 115 Malcolm Gibson 44:36; 140 James Ellam 46:18; 144 Eric Appleby; 155 Helen Mitford 47:47 (24L); 209 Lynn Swanson 60:02 (45L).

Peter Coates was leading North East athlete at Hexham International Combined Events meeting on 2nd/3rd August. He was 12th with 5470 pts (12.0, 6.05, 8.68, 1.88, 52.74, 17.28, 29.31, 3.20, 37.45 and 4:30.67). North of England Track and Field League.
Sun. 3rd Aug.
An excellent all-round team performance lifted Gateshead Harriers into second position, after yesterday's final North of England League Division 1 fixture, at Derby. With the league facing a major restructuring after this season, it is likely that the Tyneside squad will remain in this division, rather than bid for a National League place, in the qualfying match in September. Stuart Conolly gained a double victory in the sprints and North of England champion, Ian Burns won the Javelin.
Middlesbrough-Mandale won both the Division 2 title and the Womens' Division 3 championship, after yesterday's meeting in Middlesbrough. The Teeside club along with runners-up Morpeth, now go into a qualifying match next month, for Division 1 status.
Paul Reed along with David Eastlake, who was returning to competition after a 15 year absence, gained a substantial amoun of points for Morpeth, in the throwing events.

Additional Comments: Most of info used, though slightly edited. Gateshead details courtesy of Chris Betts (by mobile). Difficult to know what is happening with next season, as Mens' and Womens' competion is likely to be combined, and worse still, all matches could be held on Sundays. Daniel Burns also performed well. His father was asked to help as official, but was at Hexham for Multi Event competition. Crawford-Glanville was also a last minute addition to team, after giving up second day of Decathlon, when leading at halfway. Good meeting at Middlesbrough. Bright and sunny but cool breeze developed throughout afternoon. Good 800m, which surprisingly for this division, was combined A and B event. Sean Moralee set a fast pace, but Pogue after a slower start, almost caught Vince. Impressed with 400m B winner, Tyrone Crow, who has a North Yorkshire qualification. David Eastlake is I understand, about the same age as Paul Reed, but played safe with M40 status. Chris Tomlinson, just recovering from injury, was allowed to compete as guest in Long Jump. He leapt 7.45m, but looked to have had a longer "no jump". I am sure Smith had "flier" in 200m B event. Alan Selby looked sharper. David Riley returned to competition but was not impressive. Womens' match was low key (will Blaydon be Tyneside Composite next year ?). Good to see Rosie Smith back in competition, after A levels. Her times were quite good considering both her events had slow opening laps. They were only about 30mins apart, and she also ran two Relay legs.

North of England Track and Field League.
Monkton Stadium, Jarrow.  Sat. 2nd Aug.
Seaton, easily won the North of England Mens' Division 3 title affter Saturday's final fixture at Jarrow. The Cumbrian squad gain promotion to Division 2 along with runners-up Houghton and Peterlee. The Wearside team earned good points from Ross Elliott, who was a joint winner of the High Jump and Ian Dodsworth who won the Pole Vault. The Tyneside Composite team finished third with Jarrow and Hebburn's Adam Rogers gaining a double victory in the 200m and 400m. He also anchored the winning 4 x 400m team with a split of 49.1secs. Morpeth's Dan Samuels returned to competition after injury, to comfortably win the 1500m. Harlepool teenager, Alan Piggford narrowly defeated Tyneside's John Moore in an exciting 800m race.

Additional Comments: Most of info used. Bright and sunny, but a fair breeze trackside. John Moore (60.2 at bell in 800m) had a busy day. He was 2nd in B 200m (25.5), and won B 400m (53.3). He also ran third leg in 4 x 100m (team 3rd), and third leg in 4 x 400m (53.6), moving the combined team from 4th to 1st place. Morpeth B struggled with numbers, and in three consecutive events, had a runner pull up injured. Nathan Shrubb was also busy, and among other things clocked a 55.6secs relay split. Dan Samuels led on leg 1 with 55.1 secs (Phil Jones ran for combined team). Noticed no Chester Le Street athletes have represented combined squad, though Blaydon had a few more this time.
