Les's Pop Quiz proved quite difficult, though not for the Marshalls'
team that won. Advance notice is that the 2009 Xmas Quiz, will be my
last, after a ten-year stint. Copies of previous quizzes available on
request. George R's quiz was as usual quite hard (especially the
Picture round), and in the Pop round, my memory is not what it was.

Many apologies to all my reader(s). Due to a breakdown of the
old
computer, a purchase of a replacement and transfer of appropriate
software, the site was 5 weeks behind. I am happy to say it is now up
to date. However as AW seems to be arriving more on a Friday than
Thursday, "The Weekly Round-Up" column may be slightly delayed. Midweek
events will be added at the beginning of the following week..
John Moore won the Heaton Harriers Rington Cup (5km) for the 13th

Underfoot conditions slippery in parts due to frost.
The social/quiz night had a good attendance and my quiz proved to be
again difficult, though most teams knew the final six answers. Found
George Routledge's picture round of his quiz very difficult. I thought
David Cameron was Channel 4 racing presenter whose name escapes me.

Watching recorded highlights of World Athletics Final on
BBC (Sun. 10th Sept), cannot remember seeing Mens' 1500m. It may have
been on at start, but as per BBC fashion, starting time of broadcast
was a lot earlier than advertised.
I thought Emsley Carr Mile (seen on TV on 19th Aug), was a
disgrace. Whose idea (probably UK Athletcs ?). was it to incorporate in
an International match, when the middle distance races, are more often
than not, pedestrian affairs. Surely some guest Elite runners, could
have been added to the field or a separate race arranged ? I am afraid
these meetings (particularly Saturday) do not attract new fans to the
sport (and some old supporters would be killed off). Better for BBC to
transmit Golden League meetings like Zurich. I have just had to pay a
monthly instalment to watch the remaining GP fixtures on a Pay-Per-View
channel. Here there is a surprise combination of commentaries from Tim
Hutchings and Stuart Storey.
Jonathon Saunders (off 4:30) won the Heaton Bi-Monthly Handicap
