Stephenson doubled the advantage on the second circuit, coming home with 38secs to spare. Roe finished in an isolated second place wiith Mark Fenwick of the host club coming home in 3rd.
Sunderland's Paul Merrison led home the Veterans in 4th place, bettering his own course record set last year by 11secs.
48-year-old Ingrid Hope of Sunderland was a surprise winner of the Womens' race.
Hope overhauled long-time leader Donna Horne of Wallsend, in the closing stages, crossing the line  2secs clear..

National Road Relay Championships.
Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield.  Sat. 18th April.
The region's clubs struggled at Saturday's National Road Relay Championships at Sutton Park.
In the Mens' 12 Stage event, won very easily by Belgrave, Morpeth finished 15th. However, the Northumberland squad had some consolation when Jon Taylor's 4th leg which moved them from 20th to 7th, proved to be the fastest short stage of the day.
Chester Le Street finished 6th in the Senior Womens' race behind Charnwood who surprisingly defeated race favourites Aldershot, Farnham & District.
However, the first two teams were well inside the course record.
Steph Twell's fifth leg for Aldershot was the fastest of the day.

Looks like both NE Mens' teams had weaker line-ups than in Northern Champs which is disappointing for them. Morpeth Women would have suffered without Laura Weightman. Also it seems Vicky Gill had problems on her leg, which probably cost Aldershot the title. Leg positions were: SM: Morpeth 22,15,20,7,12,10,15,15,17,16,16,15  Gateshead: 30,31,34,35,36,35,36,36,35,36,37,39 (must have been demoted a place !)  Sunderland 41  SW: Chester Le Street: 41,19,13,9,6,6  Morpeth: 19,15,18,17,17,14  Gateshead: 17.

North Tyneside 10km Road Race.
Sun. 12th April.
Mongolian International Serod Batochir making his debut in this country, easily won yesterday's 5th North Tyneside 10km Road Race.
Batochir has joined Morpeth Harriers, and will be living in the North East for at least six months.
A record field of 1900 competitors took part in the event which covered a coastal route from the Park Centre, North Shields to St Mary's Lighthouse, Whitley Bay.
Batochir, who competed in the Olympic Marathon in Bejing, was content to stay in the the leading group in the early stages, before picking up the pace after 2M. Only Alnwick's David Kirkland attempted to cover the break, but was soon dropped by the leader.
In the bright conditions, and with little wind, Batochir gradually pulled away to a 33secs victory over his rival. His time also bettered the course record set by Ivan Hollingsworth in the inaugural event, by 21secs.
Kirkland took second place and in a close battle for third, Blaydon's Matthew Armstrong outsprinted Morpeth's Michael Morris. Ian Crampton of Durham was the leading veteran in 9th position.
Morpeth retained the team title.
Angela Hibbs of Chester Le Street won the Womens' race finishing in 35th position overall. Morpeth's Aiveen Fox took second place ahead of 2008 winner, Jessica Trowbridge of Gateshead.
Morpeth again took the team title.

Elswick Harriers Good Friday Road Races.
Newburn Riverside Park, Lemington.
Fri. 10th April.
Shildon's Kate Avery smashed the course record when winning the Senior Womens' event, at yesterday's Elswick Harriers Road Race promotion at Newburn Riverside Park, Lemington.
In the ideal conditions, the 17-year-old sixth form student, 27th in the recent World Junior Cross Country Championship, bettered Alyson Dixon's 2008 course record by a massive 18secs.
Avery came home 41secs ahead of Gateshead's Mary Ferrier, with Morpeth's Delyth James taking third place.
Morpeth retained the Senior Mens' 4 stage Road Relay title, and for good measure their Veterans squad were also successful, bettering Sunderland's 3-year-old course record by 19 secs.
In the Senior race, Loughborough student, Paul Hutton led for Gosforth on leg 1, clocking the day's fastest time. Chester Le Street headed the field on leg 2 through Carl Smith, with Morpeth and Gateshead occupying the minor places. Morpeth through club captain David Swinburne held a 4secs lead over Gateshead on leg 3, with Matthew Nicholson on Morpeth's final leg, holding off the strong challenge of Gateshead's Adam Carmichael, for a 6secs victory. Chester Le Street finished in an isolated third position..
Morpeth led on the first leg in the Veterans' race with Neil Wilkinson clocking the fastest time. Brian Rushworth took Sunderland into a temporary lead on leg 2, before Phil Walker and Craig McBurney regained the initiatve for Morpeth on the final two legs.
Visiting athlete Chris White from Nene Valley near Peterborough, missed the record in the Under 17 Men's race by 1sec, while Birtley's Sophie Forster was only 3secs adrift in the Under 13 Girls' race.
George Lowry of Jarrow and Hebburn (Under 15 Boys), Chris Peverley of Chester Le Street (Under 13 Boys) and Sophie Taylor of Birtley (Under 15 Girls) were the other winners.

Additional Comments:  Report edited. Unfortunately I only  had Track results (of sorts) on day, but did not get promised e-mailed full results. These were not available on Middlesbrough Mandale website until after 6.00pm Sunday, when report had been sent. Windy, but thankfully dry conditions. Mainly cold, but got warm when sun occasionally came out.
